About me and my therapy practice
Many issues can bring people to counselling including depression, anxiety, low mood, coping with loss, navigating change, and feeling overwhelmed with life. Reaching out for help can feel like a big step for many people - so well done for getting this far.
Having received counselling myself, I understand the importance of being able to work with you to create a trusting therapeutic relationship where you can feel free and comfortable to explore whatever issues or difficulties you need to. Working at your pace I can help you to understand yourself better, and use the sessions as a space to explore doing things differently, so that you can live a more fulfilling life.
As a Counsellor I have worked with a variety of issues, especially those related to bereavement and loss. The experience of grief for many people can be hard to share with loved ones and be quite isolating. So often the focus of our work here is to create an empathic space where your feelings can be shared, heard and validated. I have also completed additional training around pregnancy loss. As for many, pregnancy loss can be an upsetting and traumatic event, however often the experience of this grief is more likely to be hidden, and isolating.
My professional background is working in social care and as a social work, such, I have always had a passion for supporting people - especially those experiencing complex physical healthcare needs, and their carers and families, Also working in these environments has also given me a good understanding of the pressures that fast-paced highly-stressed workplaces can place on an individual’s wellbeing leading to stress and burnout.
Practice description
I mainly work online via Zoom, as an integrative counsellor which means that I use a variety of approaches including person-centered, psychodynamic, solution-focused and elements of cognitive behavioral therapy. This way of working allows me to be flexible in my approach and work in a way that is intuitive, and can be adapted to meet your individual needs.
Often the focus of the work will be led by you, and I will work at your pace supporting you to understand yourself better, and use the space to explore and practice ways in which you may want to relate differently to people, or do things differently.
My first session
The first session is often an assessment session and will be 60 mins long. (sessions are usually 50 mins) This is an opportunity to explore what your needs and goals are in relation to therapy, and to answer any questions you may have.
Often we will then agree to work together for 6 sessions, and then review how it is going. Most of the work I do is open ended and you will be able to continue to access therapy for as long as you feel it is helpful for you.

Brief therapy, CBT, Gestalt, Humanistic, Integrative, Interpersonal, Relational, Solution focused brief therapy

My first session
I often suggest a initial free 30 min phonecall/ Zoom session. This is a opportunity to ask any questions you may have and get a sense of how I work and If I’m right therapist for you.
If you then wish to start with therapy, we would then arrange a assessment session, in order to explore what your needs and hopes are in regards to therapy going forwards.
After six sessions we will review how things are going and discuss if the initial goals have been met, and whether you wish to continue at this time.
