About me and my therapy practice

It’s a beautiful, but very complicated thing, to be a human. There are many difficulties we encounter throughout our lives that can leave us feeling overwhelmed or in distress, wishing we could turn to someone for help – and yet so often, we feel as though we must push that desire away. We believe there is no time to deal with the pain or confusion that has emerged. Maybe we are even afraid of what will happen when we really open up. It takes a lot of courage to reach out and ask for help, to commit the time and energy to your own self-care and healing. Whatever has brought you to this space today, taking these first steps is a huge achievement.

My name is Becky, and I am a dedicated and compassionate integrative relational counsellor with a deep commitment to helping individuals navigate life's many challenges. My therapeutic approach is grounded in humanistic principles, placing great emphasis on the inherent worth and capacity for growth within each individual. I believe that every person has the ability to heal and thrive when provided with a safe and non-judgmental space to explore their thoughts and feelings. In either online or face-to-face sessions, I therefore aim to provide a warm and empathetic environment where we can explore your experiences at whatever pace you are comfortable with.

Practice description

I approach my work in both an LGBTQ+ and neurodiversity affirming way and am a trauma informed practitioner, working with you to ensure you have the tools to safely manage your emotions both inside and outside of sessions. I have spent the last several years working at The Swan Project, helping individuals struggling with alcohol or other substances – and I bring to this work my own experience of recovery. I believe in a holistic approach to counselling, which means I am open to exploring all parts of self – from the physical and mental, to the emotional and spiritual.

As I journey with you in that self-exploration, I may share what I am hearing or what I am feeling in response to what has come to the surface. Counselling can be about re-visiting the past, understanding where certain behaviours or messages originated, and re-constructing life narratives with a more self-compassionate lens.

However, it can also be a place to explore what is happening in the present or what you desire from your future. We may consider your passions, what inspires you, and get a better understanding of the direction you would like your life to take. I may even encourage you to explore questions related to purpose and meaning, helping you gain clarity and insight into your identity and the things that really matter to you.

My first session

I offer a free 15 minute phone call to answer any questions you may have and confirm how you wish to go forwards with therapy. Please email to arrange.

From there on, sessions will be £55 either online or in person at The Practice Rooms in Stokes Croft. I know from my own experience, the first session can feel quite daunting, but we will simply meet as two equals in the room, building trust and rapport together as you explore what is troubling you.
