About me and my therapy practice
Offering person-centred online counselling to adults and young people seeking assistance to find a sense of calm and balance when faced with adversity and the difficulties life can present.
In order to understand the impact of an issue and work through it with care and respect, it is often helpful to appreciate the person, their experience and their situation, which is why together we will aim to adopt a compassionate, empathetic and non-judgemental approach to our sessions.
As a person-centred counsellor, I draw from positive psychology, mental fitness and compassion focused therapy techniques to invite empowerment and client autonomy.
Having spent 5 years working for a national charity providing remote support to those in crisis, you can be assured of my background working on a digital interface helping people experiencing a wide range of personal issues that demand and deserve confidential, empathetic and effective support. Issues include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, self harm and suicidal ideation.
I have an understanding of trauma resulting from combat / military operations and would be very comfortable working with people with a service background. I also have experience working with clients who have worked or are still working in the prison service.
In addition to holding a L4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a Degree in Pharmacology and Physiology BSc (Hons), I work for a large, national mental health charity in the role of Designated Safeguarding Officer. As a Registered member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ, I work hard to adhere to their strict ethical code, following guidance regarding best practice and striving to offer the highest level of care and professionalism to all clients at all times.
I look forward to working with you.
Practice description
I work solely online, predominantly via Google Hangout and take a person centred approach to counselling.
I strive to create a safe, compassionate and non-directive space for clients to work through whatever difficulties they may face.
Each session is 50-60 minutes long and I aim to find a time that works for both client and counsellor that will allow for consistency in our work. I can be flexible with timings and can accommodate those working shifts or irregular hours if needed.
I welcome a free 15 minute introductory phone call prior to starting any sessions to ensure I am the best fit for your counselling needs.
My first session
A typical first session takes the form of an assessment session with exploration of what has brought a client to therapy, a bit of background information and offers chance for us to build rapport and get to know one another.
During this assessment session, I also share more about how I work as counsellor as well as outlining the finer details of our counselling agreement.
