About me and my therapy practice
I create a secure collaborative thinking space for adult clients. Together, we use this space to develop an understanding of the client’s world, emotions, challenges and conflicts in pursuit of new perspectives and frameworks for decision-making. My approach is based on my accredited training in psychodynamic and person-centred counselling and psychotherapy. It has been enhanced by 5 years experience delivering treatment in the NHS for adults suffering from severe mental health conditions, including depression, personality disorders, schizoaffective disorders and adjustment disorders. In addition, my understanding of the creative process, and organisational and intercultural dynamics are founded in 25 years management experience in the creative industries and cultural heritage sector in the UK and Hong Kong.
Practice description
I listen carefully as my clients talk and reflect about the circumstances of their lives. This means exploring their history, their family, their expectations, goals and conflicts. We work together to build an understanding of their situation and their difficulties, their conscious decision-making and unconscious habits. It is often an uncomfortable process, exploring their inner world and the possibility of change, and I support and challenge my clients carefully throughout.
My first session
Initial consultations last 60-90 minutes. Together we explore your reason for seeking therapy, the nature of your difficulties and the type of help that might be useful for you. You will have the chance to ask questions and discuss any concerns you might have about engaging in therapy. It is an opportunity for us to both to consider if we feel comfortable working together and to provide a basis for deciding a way forward.
