About me and my therapy practice
My name is Tanya Carter and I’m a Counsellor providing short and long-term therapy to children, young people and adults in across Wiltshire. I offer counselling by phone or online, using Zoom.
We all experience challenging times, when events or relationships feel overwhelming, or we feel lost or stuck. Talking to a trained professional helps to make sense of feelings and experiences. It offers a way through difficulties, moving towards a better understanding of ourselves.
Practice description
I’m a person-centred therapist, which means I have an empathetic, non-judgemental approach and provide emotional support. My role isn’t to give solutions or advice, it’s to empower you to make changes that are right for you. I provide a safe and confidential space and gentle guidance for you on your journey of self-discovery; to enable you to examine your life and make meaningful choices.
As an experienced practitioner, and as someone from outside your day-to-day life, I offer the chance to reflect on your problems in a safe and confidential space. We explore your circumstances, feelings and beliefs together, in a way that leads to fresh perspectives, and maybe a new understanding of yourself.
My first session
Once I’ve received your enquiry, I’ll contact you to arrange a free initial telephone assessment, which lasts about 20 minutes. This gives you a chance to meet me and ask any questions about how I work, and for me to find out a bit about yourself and what you’d like help with.
If we think we'll work well together, we'll then set a date and time for our first counselling session. Each counselling session last 50 minutes, usually taking place weekly, and cost £45 per session. I also provide a number of concessions spaces for people on low income or students; please contact me about availability.
I require payment in advance and accept payment by bank transfer (or cash by pre-arranged agreement). I need 48 hours’ notice of cancellations; otherwise you will need to pay for any sessions missed.

About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Tanya – a warm and accepting Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ-registered integrative counsellor. I combine a creative approach, emotional support and gentle reflection to help you find hope, purpose and wellbeing. I believe that we all need to feel heard and understood, and to feel a connection with another person. I also believe that we can all heal and thrive under the right conditions.
I work with people from all backgrounds and walks of life, and can help with lots of diverse issues. I aim to provide a safe, private and supportive space, independent of family and friends. This is to allow you to explore any difficulties or challenges you face and find a way to a more fulfilling life.
I’m a good place to start if you:
• have a clear idea of problems you’d like to resolve; or
• feel like there’s nothing ‘wrong’ in particular but have a sense that you could live more happily; or
• want to explore counselling as part of a commitment to looking after yourself; or
• interested in therapy but not sure where to start, keep putting it off, or feel bad about ‘needing it’ in the first place.
Practice description
I usually work face-to-face in a comfortable room, with nearby parking. I also offer online, telephone or text sessions. I usually work with people in weekly sessions of 50 minutes, for as long as we agree is appropriate (a minimum of 6 sessions is normal).
My counselling approach is person-centred and relational. This means I’m committed to: meeting your needs, listening carefully and compassionately, and without judging. I see our work together as a partnership. It’s important to me that I practise ethically, and that I preserve your confidentiality as much as possible.
I’m an integrative counsellor, which means I use a range of counselling techniques and theories (including person-centred therapeutic counselling, existentialism and transactional analysis). I’m able to bring different ideas to our work together, to help deepen your understanding of yourself. I tailor my approach to suit you, to support you in feeling more confident and resilient.
My first session
I offer a free initial telephone consultation of up to 30 minutes before starting therapy work. This is to discuss why you would like to come to therapy, answer any questions you have and to give us the chance to see what it might be like to work together.
If we agree to meet, we will discuss your goals for therapy in more detail and I’ll also ask about your history and how life is for you.
