About me and my therapy practice

I realise that finding the right therapist is important. I have over 30 years experience of working in mental health services in various roles in the NHS, Community settings, in Not-for-Profit Organisations and Private Practice. I have worked with children, young people, families, adults, older adults, and couples, facilitating people towards improved health, well-being and relationships.

I have also been a lecturer in Higher Education Settings (Universities) where I was involved in teaching, research, writing and editing articles and books all of which had a psychological focus.

I particularly enjoy working with adults and couples in a collaborative, strengths-focussed way and I have supported many people during challenging times in their lives.

I have significant experience of working with individuals and couples experiencing trauma, grief, loss, work-related issues, family / relationship problems, insomnia, anxiety and depression.

Practice description

Providing a professional, high-quality service with a warm and friendly approach is important to me. I use evidence-based therapies and techniques in my practice and where indicated I use an integrative approach drawing from training, experience and research. Sessions are uniquely designed to suit your needs based on collaborative discussion with you around your priorities and preferences.

I am a fully qualified and experienced Chartered Counselling Psychologist (BPS), Mental Health Nurse (NMC register), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (BABCP accredited). In addition to working with individuals I have specific training and considerable experience working with couples and those experiencing relationship difficulties (Post-Graduate Diploma Systemic Practice/Family Therapy and a Diploma in Relationship Counselling). I am also an EMDR member and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ (accredited) member.

It may be helpful for you to know about the approaches mentioned. There are guidelines and evidence supporting a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach for people experiencing anxiety, depression and trauma. Trauma can occur as a result of being involved a road traffic collision, work incident or other distressing event/s. Using an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) approach may be particularly beneficial in reducing distressing symptoms such as trauma memories, nightmares or flashbacks.

Most importantly sessions provide a safe place to talk, explore and feel understood.

My first session

It may be helpful to explore options. You may be unsure if counselling could help and what might be involved. I offer a free 15-minute introductory telephone call. This no-obligation conversation can help us to establish if counselling with me is suitable for you.

Alternatively you can request to book a first appointment. Sessions are usually 50 minutes long and generally take place weekly although we can discuss practical arrangements so that the most acceptable arrangement can be identified.
