About me and my therapy practice
My theoretical background lies strongly in philosophy, due to this I have chosen to pursue a career in existential psychotherapy. Prior to starting my education with philosophy, psychotherapy and counselling, I completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and PGDip in Psychotherapy with Middlesex University and worked with charities such as Mencap and Victim Support.
I am a registered MÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ, practicing existential, relational and phenomenological psychotherapy. Currently I am working in a private practice with individuals. I work with my client’s lived experiences; including their values, their family history and system, their connections with the world and their relationships with others, their connection with their personal identity and with their purpose and meaning.
Practice description
I am an existential psychotherapist and a supervisor. My approach helps clients gain insight, facilitating change where necessary. Existential therapy offers clients a chance to engage with their emotions, reflect on their relationships and look at how they are living their lives. I have worked with anxiety, bereavement, identity crisis, gender dysphoria, and relationship issues amongst many other existential crisis that most of us experience throughout our life span. I am also a supervisor for psychotherapists, counsellors and other mental health practitioners.
I offer a warm, caring, respectful and honest attitude to therapy. My approach is in the form of dialogue, where we won't necessarily seek the solutions but rather seek the truth. A therapeutic relationship is build on mutual trust and facilitates a safe and confidential space which will allow us to explore your existential crisis together.
My first session
Our first session will cover an initial assessment, where we will explore your expectations and needs and discuss any questions you may have about the way I work with my clients. This is an opportunity for us to see how we will work together and if I am the right therapist for you. After this, we can commit to a further 6-12 sessions if you have a specific issue you want to work on, or longer open-ended work if appropriate.
My fee is £80 per session (this also includes an initial assessment session). Each session is 50 minutes long.
My email address is: joanna.parkinson@hotmail.com
