About me and my therapy practice
I aim to work in a way that puts you at ease, to allow you to feel safe and comfortable sharing whatever feels right for you. I won’t judge or blame, but instead work alongside you, accepting your words warmly. My role is very much sat in my values of genuineness, care and compassion. In our work together we can explore what about your life feels painful, uncomfortable or something that no longer serves you. We can also explore and try out new ways of thinking, connecting and flourishing. Because of the type of therapy I am trained in (person-centred), I won’t offer advice or tell you what to do and there is no end point that I need you to reach. Over time, I hope that you will find your own way back to what feels right for you.
Practice description
From time-to-time we experience a feeling of things being ‘too much’ or not feeling ‘quite right’. Our cup starts overflowing, we feel like we might break. Or maybe what brought you here was a feeling that your life could be a ‘little bit better’, you want to gain more self-understanding and thrive. This is where I hope to help. I’ve always worked closely with people, as I’m drawn to real, human connection. This is what I aim to create within the counselling sessions.
We will work together in a warm, safe therapy room in the centre of Kendal. During our hour together you can expect me to listen to what brings you to counselling empathically, and without judgement.
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Cumbria. I maintain membership of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy as a Registered Member. I also hold Masters level qualifications in Psychology related to outdoor adventure and sport.
My first session
Perhaps all the options feel daunting and it’s hard to know which therapist to choose. You might be unsure what you might say, where you might start, or how this all works. Or perhaps you feel like you don’t know whether you need to talk to someone at all.
To help with all of these feelings, I offer a free, confidential 20 minute phone conversation, with no obligation to continue. This conversation is an opportunity to ask me anything you like about counselling, you can decide if I’m the right person to help you get going and I can talk you through the process of getting started, if you so choose. After this, we will agree the fee, how many sessions you'd like to start with when your first session will be. I hope to hear from you.
