About me and my therapy practice
I help people overcome difficulties through talking therapy. These difficulties will be unique to you and your life, so I will seek to work with you to understand what they are, and why they are so difficult to cope with. Through this, we can seek to find ways to overcome them.
I am interested in working with you if you are finding that your difficulties are negatively impacting relationships with those ostensibly close to you, and/or if you are experiencing feelings of low self-worth and loneliness as a result.
My approach is to build an authentic relationship with you to create an environment where you can feel secure to discuss inevitably difficult aspects of your life.
Talking therapy with me will involve looking to the past and early experiences, as well as considering contemporary questions about meaningfulness, purpose and existence.
My mode of therapy is called 'integrative', which means that I am trained in a number of different therapy techniques and will seek to work with you to understand how best to help you. This approach is rooted in the belief that there isn't a 'one-size-fits-all' approach that will work with everyone, but that therapy should be flexible and adjusted to the needs of whoever I am working with.
If any of this chimes with you, please feel free to get in touch about arranging a session.
Practice description
Sessions are weekly and last 50 minutes. I typically work with no pre-determined end date to therapy, preferring instead to review the work and progress at regular intervals. You are free to end therapy at any point, though I would advise that this is considered before a final session.
I have experience in private therapy institutions where I have worked with people with a range of issues, in particular stress, anxiety and depression; and in a variety of public and charitable therapy and mental health support settings, including within an NHS mental health trust, where clients have typically experienced psychosis and/or suffer from mental health conditions such as schizophrenia.
My training is as follows:
Posgraduate Certificate in Psychotherapy, Regent's University
MA, Psychotherapy and Counselling (Integrative), Regent's University
Foundation Certificate, Psychotherapy and Counselling, Regent's University
Introduction to Counselling, Birkbeck, University of London
In my previous career, I worked for various technology businesses in commercial roles with a particular focus on emerging technologies within the sports industry.
My first session
When we first meet, I will seek to understand your reasons for coming to therapy and how best you feel you might be helped. I'll try and extract as much information from you about how you're feeling and the way you're feeling as possible. Sometimes it can feel as if it's an interrogation, but I am seeking to understand why you need help and how I can help!
Therapy can take time, but it is always important in the first session or sessions to seek to clarify some goals for therapy. These will be referred back to and refined during therapy.
I will also seek to let you know about my process and will do my best to answer any questions.
