About me and my therapy practice
Sometimes life does not work out as we would hope. We can feel overwhelmed or trapped by circumstances which seem out of our control, and although choosing to seek counselling can be daunting, it can also be life changing. I offer a warm, compassionate therapeutic space where you can explore the issues causing you concern. I will help you to gain a greater understanding of yourself and the difficulties you are facing, equipping you with the resilience to meet those challenges and empowering you to move forwards.
I work with people who are experiencing a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, grief, bereavement and loss, and difficulties around relationships. I have particular experience working with trauma and addiction, having worked and trained in a drug and alcohol service. I also have many years experience of working with young people.
I am committed to helping my clients move towards their desired goals and believe passionately that the therapeutic relationship can help you to begin to live a more fulfilled life.
Practice description
I am an integrative therapist which means I draw upon different therapeutic models when working with my clients. My roots are person-centred but I also use practical models from transactional analysis and CBT, as well as insights from attachment theory and psychodynamic counselling to explore past experiences and relationships which impact on the present. At the heart of my practice is a belief in the importance of the client-counsellor relationship and the ability of each individual to overcome their challenges, empowering you to live the life you want.
In addition to private practice, I work as a school counsellor and as an associate within a local agency.
My first session
I like to have an initial, no obligation, phone call, so we can chat about what you would like to bring to counselling. This also gives us both the opportunity to decide whether or not I am the right therapist for you. After this, if you decide to go ahead, our first appointment will be an assessment session, where we will explore more fully the issues affecting you and what you are looking to gain from counselling.
