About me and my therapy practice
Research shows that a good, trusted relationship between client and therapist is one of the most influential factors in effective therapy, but I know from experience that all the jargon, different types of therapy and the sheer number of therapists out there can make your search for the ‘right’ person seem overwhelming.
Besides solid training/accreditation, by far the most important thing is to find someone you feel essentially comfortable talking to – someone that you ‘mesh’ with.
Please be assured that whatever you bring, my priority will always be to help you feel safe, heard, valued and understood. I’m compassionate, open minded and easy to talk to. I will never judge, force you to change or tell you ‘should’ think, feel or do.
Instead, we’ll work together to gain a clearer understanding of you and your life to discover your unique route to feeling better. And, if I’m not the right therapist for you, I’ll always be happy to signpost you on your journey to finding one who is.
My training is as an Integrative Counsellor and I think this approach is great for clients, because it means carefully combining different therapeutic styles to suit the individual.
I tend to draw on Person-Centred and Existential philosophies - and having taught yoga for nearly ten years (including specialist training in working with stress and trauma) I also think a body-informed approach to mental health can be incredibly helpful.
Thanks for reading my profile. If my approach sounds like it could be useful for you, I would be delighted to hear from you.
Practice description
If you prefer to work in person, my offices are comfortable, quiet and easily accessible, based in centre of Modbury, Ivybridge. I also offer video or phone sessions if those suit you better. Sessions are 50 minutes.
Currently I work with adult clients only.
Besides an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling, I also have: a Philosophy BA hons degree, a Teaching Diploma from the British Wheel of Yoga, lots of life experience and a genuine passion for therapeutic work.
So far, I’ve worked: for a charity supporting survivors of sexual abuse, at a busy counselling agency supporting clients with a broad range of issues and more recently in private practice.
My first session
I offer a fifteen minute, no-obligation phone or video chat free of charge. We'll book a time to talk and I'll do my best to answer any initial questions you have.
If we both feel the fit is right, we’ll schedule an initial counselling assessment, discuss what you want to gain from therapy and agree how best we can work together.
