About me and my therapy practice
Hello, and welcome.
I'm Ian Caley and I specialise in helping people overcome addiction and drink and drug use problems and work through the negative effects of what we have come to live with- Trauma from childhood, depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, anger. We may feel we're losing relationships, our work may be suffering, we may feel blocked spiritually, feeling like something's missing, and this can feel dark.
I help people to work through these problems when they are entangled in excessive drink and drug use- a coping mechanism we have come to rely on. You're reading this if it's no longer working for you.
What separates me from other therapists is my personal experience of addiction and recovery, coupled with my study into the psychology of addiction and therapy to Masters level. My work is evidence based yet personal, empathetic and non-judgemental, as you would expect.
I am in recovery from addiction (though you may not be ready to stop yet-- something that we'll talk about) and have connections with top treatment centres abroad and in the UK as a referrer to- for detox and start of recovery for example and I am a treatment continuation therapist for those clients exiting treatment centres.
My clients include successful ex-pats living abroad, those out of area in different parts of the UK and face to face clients at either of my clinics in Hove or rural and secluded Glynde, near Lewes in East Sussex where I am based.
I am married (I'm glad she stuck with me!) and have a family I love and cherish, things I very nearly lost. I help people because I can, and have many, many success stories- others who have freed themselves and now live an even more successful and wholesome life than before.
My hourly rate is £80.

Practice description
Face to face practices in Hove and in rural and private Glynde, East Sussex where I am based,
Online to those out of area across the UK and abroad.
Qualification; Masters in Addiction Psychology & Counselling.
Some therapists say they can help with addiction or drink and drug problems but very few have actually experienced what it's like, very few have really been there. I understand addiction. I live my life today held by a 'whole recovery' and I now help others to work towards the same thing and beat the anxiety, depression and anger. Recovery is a bright place, but it takes work to get there. work on yourself that is, but with someone alongside you, who won't judge or tell you what they'd do if they were you- someone to listen.
My first session
I'm a normal guy, easy to relate to and get along with, yet professional, calm & relaxed.
I'm an integrative therapist but of course that has a person-centred underpinning so I won't put you on a couch and diagnose you- I believe you to be the expert on yourself, but as an experienced drug & alcohol specialist I know that there are other modalities we'll need to lean on.
Whether it's addiction, drinking too much alcohol, substance misuse, loss or bereavement, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, anger or an insidious mix of all of those feelings, I'll sit with you as you slowly and safely lift the lid on them and let the light in.
I personally think seeking help is a massively courageous step to take and I won't be taking that for granted. I'll provide safety for you -that's paramount- and a confidential space where you can talk to me in depth about the things you don't want others to know (work or loved ones for example). Sometimes we need to share what's going on but we don't have anyone to share to.
The methods I bring in to our sessions will be studied and evidence based and will depend on where you are in your journey and your change cycle, what you're feeling like today and what's important for you to work through in the here and now (are you beginning to explore change or are we far enough in that we're working on maintaining the change you've moulded).
You can expect understanding, empathy and methods that work. And you'll experience hope. Things will change.
What I can help with
Abuse, ADD / ADHD, Addictions, Anger management, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Bereavement, Cancer, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Depression, Health related issues, Identity issues, LGBTQ+ counselling, Life coaching, Loss, Menopause, Men's issues, Mood disorder, Neurodiversity, Obsessions, Personal development, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Sexual identity, Spirituality, Stress, Substance Dependency, Trauma, Work related issues
