Availability
I am currently open to new clients I work Monday to Thursday 9am to 7pm. I do not currently accept sessions at the weekend.
My practice holds two other sessional workers that offer sessions on Friday and more flexibly during the week both remotely and in person. Please do reach out to enquire about working with my other sessional counsellors.
I work both in person in my office in Colwyn Bay and remotely via telephone or teams, alternatively I provide Walking Talking therapy based out of Llanfairfechan. Moving in Nature can be a great way to encourage natural conversation, get outside and move your body. I will work as flexibly as possible to ensure you have accessibility to counselling at a time that is best for you.
Bank holidays, and holiday periods such as Christmas are usually taken as vacation days however, I will communicate this with you to ensure you have ample notice.
About me and my therapy practice
Reaching out for support and asking for help can be such a hard thing to do and I know it can feel like a maze when searching for a therapist to help you. I Offer counselling services in North Wales and remotely across the UK, so you can access counselling from the comfort of your home. I work with people from all backgrounds, ethnicities, beliefs, genders, sexuality and areas within the UK and Europe. Offering remote sessions, there is a degree of flexibility allowing you to tune in when and where is best for you. Previous experience has seen me working for charities and organisations: NHS, Cruse Bereavement Service, North Wales Trauma Center, BEAT and The Mix.
Specialising in complex mental health and trauma focused care. I have a wide experience of working with those struggling with complex grief, suicidal thoughts/ideation, sexual abuse, domestic violence, BPD, PTSD, eating disorders, personality disorders, depression, anxiety and more.
My services will take into account everything that you are experiencing, sometimes our physical symptoms can be biproducts of other issues we are facing and we cannot have a healthy mind without a healthy body or environment.
With a strong background based in the outdoors as an instructor for a number of years, a lifelong interest and passion in physical activity and a creative curiosity for people and their lives, completing my Master’s in Counselling with Distinction was my next step to working with people in a rounded and holistic setting.
I believe that you are the expert of your own mind and body, your journey in life so far and your way of seeing the world will differ to mine and others. With this in mind I work using integrative techniques to draw on approaches I am trained in such as Psychodynamic, CBT, ACT, Person Centered, Behavioural and Cognitive Approaches, Trauma Focused Care, DBT etc. and draw on skills within them to create the best care and support in line with your own experiences and beliefs.
Practice description
You can expect an empathetic, understanding and non-judgemental space which is safe to communicate all your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I view everyone as a unique individual with a unique story to tell while ensuring we work collaboratively together to provide the best care possible to you.
You are the expert of yourself, your life, mind and body and so I trust that you know best and I am here to guide you and support you to reach any goals you set yourself.
I use an integrative approach and draw on tools from multiple different therapeutic theories to support what you bring to counselling. This can adapt and change over time, as we all do in life so you never have to feel like you will get stuck when working with me. It is important that we work in a collaborative way, as you are the expert of yourself, so I will encourage you to tell me if you feel things need to change, if you like something or you want to dive into a new topic as well as setting up your own boundaries within sessions. However, the sessions will offer challenges, we will explore different perspectives and ensure you are getting the most out of the therapy experience in order for you to progress with you're mental health journey. Getting to the root of the issue and implementing effective coping skills and processing methods, will ensure longevity when it comes to your mental health in the future.
My first session
In our first session together you may find that I talk a lot more than usual, this is due to the need to run over our counselling agreement to ensure we both understand what is expected during counselling.
You will have the opportunity to ask any questions and even add into the agreement anything you feel is missing.
We may then complete some mood questionnaires such as the PHQ9 and the CORE10. These are often great ice breakers if you're a little nervous, but they are also good for checking in with how you are when you start vs when you finish.
Once these are all completed it is your chance to ask any questions or share anything that may be on your mind.
