About me and my therapy practice

The pressures of doing it all - success, career, dating, relationships, parenting, friendships - are just a few of the common stressors most of us, if not all of us, experience. On some days, we feel competent and capable at handling life, but then there are those days where it all just feels too much, overwhelming, and sometimes even debilitating.

I offer a safe, confidential environment where you can explore at your own pace whatever is troubling you. My approach to therapy is warm and welcoming, supportive and professional. I provide a space where you can talk, reflect and gain insights that can provide a real, positive impact on your life.

Together, we will make sense of what you are bumping up against, name the stories that are keeping you stuck (the narratives and track records that play on repeat in your mind), and identify your adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies when you feel the build up of emotion in your day-to-day life (alcohol, food, work, sex, internet, etc.). We will make the unconscious conscious, so that you are not simply existing in your life, but living the life you deeply desire.

I have worked with clients, both individuals and couples, on diverse issues such as: anxiety and depression, and loss of confidence; bereavement and loss, and trauma experiences; couples, partner, marriage difficulties (intimacy, infidelity, jealousy); living with illness or disability (yours or someone you love); and work-related stress.

My first session

For individuals:

The first session is an opportunity to meet and get a sense of each other. It is a time when I will explore what has led you to seek therapy and begin to learn about you by asking about your life, family, work, relationships and any significant experiences and events that stand out.

Undertaking therapy is a considerable commitment in terms of emotion, energy, time and money. So this first session is an important opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have to get a sense of me and how I work so that together we can decide if I and my therapeutic approach will be helpful.

For couples:

In the first assessment session I take an in depth relationship history. In the second assessment session I spend 45 minutes with each partner for individual assessments. And in the third assessment session I review all the data from the relationship surveys and interview sessions. From this we create goals and a plan that addresses the specific needs or your unique relationship.
