About me and my therapy practice
Hello my name is Laura. I am warm, attentive, understanding and empathic. Clients have told me they find me welcoming, friendly and easy to talk to.
Maybe you haven’t been feeling quite yourself lately or a significant life event has left you reeling, or you just can’t quite put your finger on it, but you know something is off. Perhaps anxiety is taking over and you're struggling to think straight. It can feel really overwhelming, scary, heavy and isolating when we are struggling on the inside, but still having to function and meet the demands of life. The thought of reaching out for help can feel very daunting and I really appreciate how hard it can be to send that first email or make that call. I will do my best to put you at ease and provide a safe empathic space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment and be fully accepted just as you are. To be really heard and understood and its ok to bring your emotions, tears, laughter and swearing are welcomed.
Gaining an understanding of your life through your lens and working alongside you as you navigate your way through difficulties. It is not my intention to tell you what to do, but to help you find your own answers. I like to work at a pace that is comfortable to you and appreciate it takes time to create a trusted relationship. We will only explore where you feel able to go. I will provide a space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions and help you gain a sense of your inner world. This might involve exploring patterns of behaviour, how you relate to others, how past life events maybe impacting you in the here and now, or how you feel about yourself and others around you. Essentially it is your space and we can explore whatever you’re struggling with no matter how big or small.
I look forward to hearing from you and I aim to respond to all email enquires within 24 hours. Please check your junk/spam if you have not heard back within this time frame.
Practice description
My approach is Integrative and this allows me to pull on different theories and interventions that I feel would be most suitable to you personally. I treat all my clients as unique individuals and work in a way which I feel will be most beneficial to you depending on what brings you to counselling. I like to work collaboratively to ensure you are getting what you need from our time together.
I have a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I am trained in Person-Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis theory. As a Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ registered member I adhere to their Ethical Framework for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have professional indemnity insurance and attend regular supervision.
I am trauma informed with 2 years experience working with a suicide prevention charity supporting clients struggling with suicidal thoughts, self-harm and childhood trauma.
In my private practice I have experience working with clients who struggle with anxiety, loss and grief and low self worth.
I have a special interest in working with survivors of emotional or narcissistic abuse. After coming out of an abusive relationship you can feel very broken down, disconnected, lost, alone and you may struggle to trust yourself and have low self-esteem. You may even believe you’re to blame somehow. I am passionate about helping people regain their sense of self and identity by supporting them to rebuild their trust and connection with themselves and to have a more compassionate internal dialogue of their experience to help restore their self-worth and move forward with their lives.
I am keen that counselling is accessible to all so I offer sessions Face to Face in my therapy room, online via Zoom and over the telephone. I also offer Walk and Talk therapy as I appreciate for some people being in a room can feel overwhelming and you might feel more comfortable being outside walking alongside one another.
I have a limited number of concessionary places available.
My first session
It’s really important you feel comfortable working with me, so I offer an initial free 30-minute consultation online via zoom. This is so we can explore what brings you to counselling and I can offer you a sense of how I work. This gives you an opportunity to get a feel for me and see if you feel safe and comfortable in talking to me and ask any questions you might have. I appreciate counselling is a big investment so I invite you to take time after this meeting to see if you feel I am a good fit for you and if you would like to work together.
