About me and my therapy practice

Hi and a warm welcome,

Thank you for taking that first step to finding some support and finding me in the Directory.

I am passionate about mental health and love helping people heal from emotional wounds, codependency/relationship (with self and others), family dynamics, trauma (responses), addiction and sexual issues.

I am interested in how the therapeutic process helps recover and restore the real self and bridge embodiment practices with talking therapy.

I encourage this process through groups, workshops & individual therapy.

There are many reasons why you may find yourself here, you may not yet be sure yourself what these reasons are. What you do know is that you feel unhappy, stuck or unfulfilled and it's been difficult to talk about freely with family or friends. This is where I come in. I'm here to offer you a listening ear, really listen to everything you are feeling and experiencing. I provide a safe and welcoming space for you to talk things through, exploring together where you are and what you need.

What l can offer you?

I offer counselling session to adults, young adults and couples. I’m trained as an integrative therapist, which means I adopt a variety of techniques, including person-centred, psychodynamic and holistic approaches.

Walk and Talk Therapy

I offer outdoor therapy sessions which are during day time hours.

Online Therapy

For online sessions, I use Zoom, but if you have a preferred platform such as MS Teams, that's absolutely fine, so long as we agree between us the platform is appropriately secure and confidential. It's really important that you have a quiet, confidential space, preferably with good internet connection!

I believe that finding the right therapist is vital to successful therapy. How do you know if I'm the right person? It's a big question - you will be dedicating time and resources and therefore want to make sure it's a good fit.

Feel free to explore my website www.counsellingwithrachel.com to find out more about me, how I work and what I can offer you.

Or, if you'd like to, contact me for a free informal chat to see if you feel we're a good fit for each other and I can answer any other questions you may have.

Practice description

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor and I see people who may use a variety of creative ways to cope with their emotional experience including codependency, dissociation and compulsive disorders.

I have a particular interest in supporting people who have experienced trauma, sexual/ domestic abuse, people who identify as LGBTQIA and young people 18+ negotiate their transition into adulthood.

My approach is collaborative, compassionate and curious. I believe strongly in the value and importance of developing a trusting relationship with you,  through which you can explore how you understand yourself and your relationships.

I am passionate about empowering the people l work with to develop and rediscover their own resourcefulness, creativity and strengths. I work in a way that focuses on what lies beneath your actions and repetitive patterns; to develop a deeper awareness and understanding of how you see yourself and others, as well as how past experiences may affect the present, your relationships, your feelings and your sense of self.

I believe in embodied approaches to therapy, and in thinking about the interaction between our minds and our bodies, and supporting the people l work with to pay close attention to both physical and emotional feelings.

Previous Experience and Qualifications

I bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to my work. I have worked for charities and community services, including a Specialist Addiction Charity, a Brain injury charity and Mental Health Services. I currently work in private practice and for a sexual abuse charity.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi and a warm welcome,

I am an experienced Integrative Psychotherpeutic Counsellor, and Holistic Therapist.  I hold a B.A. (1st Class Hons) in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy, Advanced Yoga, and Somatic Bodywork certifications.

I believe that each person is unique (and therefore one approach doesn't fit all), and that a holistic view is crucial to mental health and physical wellbeing. I have spent the last 16 years developing an effective toolbox of various skills to draw upon, that will help you make sense of your situation, gain deeper clarity and understanding, and ultimately help to free yourself from the depths of your suffering.

I understand how scary it can feel entering in to such a relationship.. At the start of my personal therapy journey, l felt lost and disconnected from my body, stuck in repeating unhealthy relationship patterns. I did not know where to go or how to change. Therapy gave me perceptive, support and guided me to discover a new sense of belonging and purpose.

I can help you to explore your challenges, help you to reconnect with yourself, and strengthen your own internal resources, as well as teach you new techniques that will support your growth. I can help you to understand and befriend the "noise" in your head, identify and break free from unhealthy and unhelpful patterns.

I have a personal interest in mental health, physical health, healing from trauma through the use of Eastern philosophies, such as yoga, qigong, mediation and taoist teachings. I have a daily yoga and meditation practice, all of which influence and are sometimes integrated into my client work. Although I work with most presentations, I particularly enjoy supporting people facing issues around sexual trauma/difficulties, domestic abuse, LGBTQIA identity issues , anxiety, depression and stress related issues.

Guiding Your Path to Healing

I firmly believe in the uniqueness of each individual, recognizing that one approach cannot fit all. Embracing a holistic perspective. Over the past 16 years, I've diligently curated a diverse toolbox of skills to support you in navigating life's challenges, fostering clarity, understanding, and ultimately liberation from suffering.

Central to the success of therapy is the therapeutic relationship itself. In our sessions, I bring my authentic self—warm, present, and forthright. Drawing from my Dutch heritage, I offer a grounded, direct approach and am unafraid to challenge you. If you seek a 'blank slate' therapist, we may not be the best fit.

With an open heart and without judgment, I offer a listening ear to help you navigate the internal noise, identify and dismantle unhelpful patterns, and cultivate inner peace.

For those who prefer structure, I can provide a more tailored treatment plan for specific issues such as anxiety, trauma, sexual concerns, stress, and depression. These sessions may include homework assignments to maximize progress between sessions.

I offer individual and couples therapy sessions, both in-person in Godalming and remotely via Zoom or telephone, conducted in English or Dutch.

Enquiries are welcome, and I invite you to reach out via email to schedule a discussion about the possibility of working together. Upon contact, we'll arrange an initial assessment to determine the suitability of my approach for your needs.

Experience

While my primary focus has been one-on-one therapy, I also have experience working with couples, facilitating discussions to resolve relationship issues and foster healthier connections. Additionally, I lead group therapy programs, including a recent Self-Care Day for women recovering from trauma, a Somatic Movement workshop, and regular Mindfulness, Meditation, and Yoga group classes—areas that particularly align with my interests and expertise.
