About me and my therapy practice
I follow a person centred approach with all my clients, meaning that I see you as the expert in your own experiences. Therapy is your personal journey - I am here to walk beside you at your pace, focusing on the areas that you choose to bring.
Whilst I will happily work with most issues (unless I feel you could receive more specialist support elsewhere) I have particular experience in working with:
- Domestic violence / abuse
- Sexuality, gender identity and LGBT+ community
- Unpaid carers
- Older Adults
In addition to counselling I am a qualified yoga teacher, with training in both Yoga for Anxiety and Yoga for PTSD. As a result I am able to take a holistic approach to therapy, if and when it suits you, using movement and breath based techniques alongside more traditional counselling.
Practice description
Counselling:
I currently work remotely, either online or by phone, as preferred by you. This may change part way through therapy if you realise one approach suits you better. I offer 6-8 sessions initially, but these can be extended to longer term work after a review of how we are both finding the sessions. It is important to me that you feel comfortable with the counselling relationship, so this can be revisited at any point. Sessions are booked for one hour each.
Walk and Talk:
As well as remote counselling, I offer one off Walk and Talk sessions in the local area. Still following a person centred approach, these sessions understand how helpful it can be to have a space to talk combined with fresh air, gentle exercise, and an additional focus. There is no pressure to complete a particular distance, but sessions can be booked for either 60 or 90 minutes.
My first session
I offer all clients a free 20 minute phone call prior to the first session. This is a chance for us to discuss practical arrangements, for me can get to know a bit more about you and what you are looking for in therapy, and for you to decide whether working with me feels like a good fit.
I then request that the first session is paid for in advance, with subsequent weeks being paid for following the session.
