Hello,
My name is Barbara Leahy. I am a qualified integrative counsellor which means that I can provide a range of appropriate therapies throughout my work, although my practice is drawn on and underpinned by the values of the Person-Centered approach that encompass the core conditions of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard.
Practice description
How many times have you struggled with any of the following painful emotions or feelings and tried to push them away because you don't know what else to do?
Feelings such as, loss, transition (the process or period of changing from one state or condition to another), eating disorders, self-harm, depression, anger, physical, sexual or emotional abuse, anxiety, phobias, fears, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex post traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD).
I offer counselling in a safe, nurturing, confidential and non-judgmental environment so that clients can voice and explore their thoughts, feelings and emotions, along with complex experiences and personal concerns and difficulties. My aim is to facilitate and support clients to move forward in life and to gain their sense of safety and connection whilst increasing their capacity to regulate their emotions.
I demonstrate honesty and genuineness (congruence) as an essential part of my work, I understand and share the feelings of another (empathy), and complete acceptance and support of my clients no matter what they say or do (unconditional positive regard); there are no conditions or judgement.
My first session
I offer an initial, fifteen minute telephone conversation which enables you to ask any questions and discuss what your expectations are of receiving counselling, and of course, discuss whether I might be a suitable therapist for you.
