Discovering Your Neurodivergent Self: Autism, ADHD, or Both?
Are you navigating the complex world of neurodiversity? Perhaps you're wondering if you're autistic, have ADHD, or both (AuDHD)? You're not alone. Many adults are receiving late diagnoses, often prompted by their child's diagnosis or through self-discovery. Thanks to the wealth of information now available, more people than ever are embarking on their own neurodiversity research journeys.
The Double-Edged Sword of Diagnosis
Discovering you're neurodivergent can be a mixed blessing. While it often brings a sense of relief and self-understanding, it also raises new questions. How much do you really know about autism or ADHD? Surprisingly, many neurodivergent individuals have limited knowledge about their own neurotype.
Navigating a Neurotypical World
Do you sometimes feel like an alien trying to decipher human behaviour? What seems straightforward to neurotypical individuals can be perplexing for neurodivergent people. This disconnect can lead to:
• Feelings of shame and confusion
• A fragmented sense of self
• Social withdrawal and isolation
Embracing Your Unique Neurodivergent Profile
Remember, no two neurodivergent individuals are alike. Many also experience co-occurring conditions such as trauma, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, or depression. Your neurodivergence can influence every aspect of your life, from family dynamics to workplace relationships and friendships.
Bridging the Gap Between Inner and Outer Worlds
• Do you feel fundamentally different from others?
• Is there a disconnect between your inner experience and outward appearance?
• Do you struggle to express your emotions?
