About me and my therapy practice

Thank you for taking the time to consider my practice.

My name is Susan and I am a Somatic Informed Trauma Therapist with an integrative approach. I'm based in Wiltshire offering short and long-term therapy for both individual adults and couples.

I have experience working with trauma and abuse (physical, emotional and sexual). I have worked with clients who have had life-limiting diagnoses. Alongside this, I have gained experience working with the many challenges life brings; relationship issues, becoming a parent, leaving home for university, loss of work, bereavement, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, menopause and issues that challenge the twilight years.

I work inclusively with clients from differing family systems, cultures, faith, ethnicity, gender or sexuality.

I offer online or in-person therapy from a dedicated accessible therapy room.

At the heart of my practice is the importance of our therapeutic relationship. To nurture this relationship I offer you a safe, honest and empathic environment, to be fully present and bring no assumptions or judgement.

"As human beings together, I understand we all experience difficulties at times in our lives, but as individuals, our needs may differ."

My approach is integrative using more than one theory to inform my practice offering a bespoke service for you. I work with you as a 'whole person', not only how the mind influences behaviours and feelings but how experiences of trauma get held in the body if unresolved. Recognising how both body and mind experience overwhelm together, not separately.

I work alongside you, at your pace and together we consider your individual needs, and what you would like to address. I will support you whilst you explore your choices, decisions and possible changes, meeting you as you 'are'.

Practice description

I am offering therapy both in-person or online (Individual therapy only) using the internet platform Zoom (this may be open to change) - I can offer you guidance if this is unfamiliar to you.

I work with individual adults and couples.

Sessions usually take place on a weekly for continuity of process, at the same time and on the same day each week.

I offer both short and long-term therapy with regular reviews.

In the beginning, I will ask you to sign a Working Agreement which we will negotiate together. This will offer clarity around aspects of confidentiality, fees and expectations, in addition to my privacy policy. I will provide the exact address of my therapy room in the Working Agreement.

My first session

After your initial email enquiry from here, or directly from my website, I offer a free 30-minute consultation on the telephone or via a video link.

This provides you with the opportunity to ask any questions you have, get a sense of me and decide whether you think we can work well together. At this consultation, you may like to explore therapy/Breathwork Coaching.

Breathwork may be integrated into trauma work within the course of therapy. Often the way we breathe in the present can become a pattern reflective of the past. This can be observed in the roots of both anxiety and depression. Conscious breathing can aid in stabilisation and increase capacity. I also offer Breathwork Coaching where we would work together focusing on breathing patterns, regulation, and bringing coherency to the breath. There would be commitment needed to practice and continue this work out of sessions. This is often short-term work unless you decide to continue to work therapeutically.

The initial paid session is extended and will include a discussion on the Working Agreement and a full assessment to ensure I have all the necessary information to work with you in an optimal way. In turn, this aids in creating the most desirable outcome for you. It gives time for you to familiarise yourself with the therapeutic space and relationship. If, at this point, it becomes apparent you need something I cannot offer, I will help find what you need to attain your best outcome.

The initial assessment session will be extended with the fee reflective of this.

Further information about fees and sessions may be found on my website.
