About me and my therapy practice

Hello and a warm welcome. I'm Kerry. What would it be like to be supported in recovering from difficult past experiences? What if you could develop healthier boundaries and improve your relationships? What would it be like to lessen the overwhelm, or quiet the part of you that feels panicked or anxious?

Whether you have a specific problem such as relationship difficulties, a loss, a personal trauma, are facing a big decision, or are feeling sad and don’t really know why, my holistic and integrative approach to psychotherapy and counselling can help.

From my private practice in Bucks, I provide online and telephone psychotherapy and counselling to adults (aged 18+). I've been working as a psychotherapist for over a decade now and am trained in a wide range of psychological issues.

I understand it can be hard to share difficult, painful, or embarrassing things, and I also want to acknowledge the anxiety that can arise when deciding to ask for support. Many people feel this way, especially at the beginning. It can be helpful to think of therapy as a place where you can bring anything that's going on for you - a place where you can be entirely yourself - without fear of judgment.

One of the most important things when looking for a therapist is to find someone you feel comfortable with, can relate to, and feel supported by. My private practice is warm, professional and safe. I will listen deeply, gently and perceptively to your story and to your difficulties - with interest, empathy and care. Together, we can explore more fully what you're experiencing (and how you might like things to be different) whilst we work collaboratively to formulate a way forward that feels right to you.

Practice description

What to expect from Integrative Therapy

I practice a type of therapy called Integrative Psychotherapy. The word 'Integrative' means combining two or more things to make something more successful. When applied to the practice of psychotherapy, it simply means that I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches so that I can adapt how I work to suit your needs.

For instance, if you are curious about how past experiences might be contributing to your present challenges, I'll help you gently reflect on unconscious patterns which may no longer be serving you. This can help you revise long-held beliefs about yourself, others, and the world around you - and free you up to experiment with new ways of thinking, feeling, and being in the world.

Please look at my website to learn more about my practice and how I work.

Some of the issues I work with

The people who tend to come to me for therapy are those who are experiencing challenges that typically include anxiety, low mood, relationship issues and family difficulties, stress/burn-out, self-criticism and traumatic experiences, life transitions, and difficulties adjusting to living with a physical health condition, (such as ME/CFS and Long Covid).

I am always happy to discuss any difficulties you may be experiencing to see if I can help.

My first session

01 Introductory Call

I offer a complementary (free) 15-minute introductory phone call to begin our conversation. When we first speak, we explore our mutual availability for potential sessions, and I will invite you to give a brief outline of what is troubling you. If our timings match, and you would like to go ahead, we can then schedule your consultation appointment. This typically takes place within 1 to 2 weeks from this point.

02 Consultation

During your Consultation appointment (50 minutes), we'll look at the main difficulties you are facing, and I will ask you questions about your background and hopes for therapy to inform our potential work together. This helps me gain a better understanding of what you’re looking for.

Depending upon your preference for therapy sessions, this takes place using secure video-encrypted software (Zoom) or over the phone. The consultation process is usually completed in 1-2 appointments, but there is no expectation from me that you must attend a second appointment if you choose not to.

03 Therapy

When we decide we would like to work together, my standard arrangement for counselling and psychotherapy is weekly sessions of 50 minutes. The number of sessions varies according to your situation and what you are wishing to address and is something that we discuss and decide upon together. Therapy sessions take place at the same time and day each week.

If you’d like to enquire further, get in touch to request your free 15-minute Introductory call. I do prefer to talk with you before we meet as it can give you a sense of how I work and also provide you with the opportunity to see how comfortable you feel with me.

Whatever your reasons are for seeking out help, please know they are valid. I am naturally warm, non-judgmental and down-to-earth - and I would be delighted to hear from you!
