About me and my therapy practice
Each one of us is the product of a unique set of circumstances, traits, and experiences, and this is reflected in how I approach therapy. I combine integrative therapy with coaching tools to tailor the sessions to you. In practice this means that I can help you explore issues important to you in depth and at your own pace, so that you can understand yourself better. It also means that I can assist you in finding ways to manage problems in a healthier way and to implement changes in your life - whether it is improving your confidence and relationships, creating new habits, or accepting a part of yourself. I am able to offer my knowledge and skillset to assist you when you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or simply if you want a bit more direction in our sessions.
I work integratively, which means I combine different therapeutic approaches and coaching to tailor the therapy to you. I have listed the ones I work with below and I have briefly explained how they might inform our work together.
I work extensively with neurodivergent people (ADHD & Autism Spectrum) and complex presentations (such as long-standing depression, multiple presenting issues, and trauma).
Practice description
Person-centred: Person-centred therapy is my attitude to therapy and underpins all the therapeutic work that I do. It means that our work is collaborative - whilst I use my professional knowledge to help you make decisions, you have input and say in how we do therapy. This includes the type of material you bring into our sessions, how we interpret your experiences (we use your frame of understanding), whether you want the sessions to be more exploratory or focused, whether you want to do certain interventions that I might suggest, and how much input from me you need. It also means that I put a lot of care to make sure that I understand you without judgement and build trust between us.
Psychodynamic: our early relationships and experiences really leave a mark on us. In our therapy sessions, we might decide to explore how these have shaped you - your beliefs, feelings and thoughts, and your responses to the world around you. This makes it easier to understand and accept yourself. Insight and acceptance help us make better decisions, alleviate internal conflicts and emotional distress.
Cognitive behavioural therapy & coaching: sometimes we know that we have a problem and where it stems from, but we don’t know how to change. This is where CBT and coaching come in. Some of the exercises and tasks from these two approaches can assist you in creating more helpful responses to the world around you and to yourself. This means you can move past automatic responses to triggers and create sustainable long-term change.
