Availability
I work online and in person on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between the hours of 0800-1900 on the basis of a 50 minute therapeutic or coaching session. I offer counselling on an open-ended or time-limited basis for an agreed number of sessions (usually between six and twenty sessions). For on line work, clients will need to have a confidential space, good internet connection and a reliable laptop or desktop with access to Zoom. Counselling and Psychotherapy sessions take place at a set time and day each week, apart from agreed holiday breaks. I offer once weekly or twice weekly counselling.
Coaching sessions are usually less frequent and may be offered on a fortnightly or monthly basis to be agreed with the client.
About me and my therapy practice
I work with individuals, couples and pairs of friends or relatives who wish to explore what is keeping them stuck in unhelpful patterns of relating, or what is making them feel unhappy, anxious depressed or unfulfilled. Often, these patterns are set in early childhood and are not in conscious awareness. Together, we will explore the beliefs you hold about yourself and others; where these beliefs originated; what survival methods you may have cultivated unconsciously; which negative experiences keep repeating themselves; how you have developed a life script which forms the basis of your feelings, thoughts and beliefs. We will work together to bring these feelings, thoughts and beliefs into conscious awareness so that you may consciously test out their validity and challenge them in order to bring about change.
Each individual client will have a sense of how deep they want to go and may therefore choose whether they want to test the waters with short term therapy (6-20 weeks) or opt for an open-ended approach. The choice is yours and you may not have a clear idea of what you want from therapy. Much of what happens during therapy will emerge as the work progresses. Establishing a positive working relationship with the therapist is crucial to the effectiveness of the therapy. It is important therefore, that you choose a therapist who is right for you and with whom you feel comfortable.
I offer weekly 50-minute sessions, mostly online. These usually take place on the same day and at the same time each week.
Practice description
Congratulations on taking the initiative to explore how you might nurture your mental health and well-being, whether you wish to improve personal or professional relationships, reach your full potential, achieve a better work-life balance, manage the challenges of working in stressful environments, cope with loss, stress, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, prejudice and unconscious bias, or to gain a deeper understanding of your feelings, thoughts and behaviours. I offer a safe and confidential space to work collaboratively with you to help you understand how unconscious, internal processes may be holding you hostage and hi-jacking your relationships, feelings and well-being.
I am a qualified and experienced Psychotherapist, Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, Certified Transactional Analyst (EATA - European Association for TA) and Executive Coach. I trained in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute in London and hold an MSc in Executive Coaching from the Hult Ashridge Business School and a Diploma in Professional Coach-Mentoring from the OCM in Oxford.
I added Psychotherapy to my coaching training and experience as I noticed how often my coaching clients raised issues that were of a very personal nature and which got in the way of their relationships and their work. Coaching on the basis of a once-a-month meeting did not seem adequate to address deeper, unconscious processes that were preventing them from leading a happy, fulfilling, work-life balance. Counselling works best when it takes place weekly. It may be short term or long term, depending on the issues to be addressed and how deep the client wants to go in exploring how early life relationships or developmental traumas may be keeping them stuck in unhelpful patterns of relating to others and valuing themselves. My training and experience in both psychotherapy and coaching enable me to tailor my work to the needs of the client and to cross the divide between coaching and counselling.
My first session
I understand how important it is to find the right therapist, and if you are new to therapy, to gain some insights into what to expect. I offer a free half-hour consultation, on line, to explore your needs with you and to explain how I work. The relationship between client and therapist is fundamental to the effectiveness of the therapy so there is no obligation to continue working together at this stage. This is an opportunity to explore your needs and how therapy might support you and to get a feel for how well we might work together. You can email me to book an appointment.
