About me and my therapy practice
I support Children and Young People (from age 4 upwards) with counselling through face to face conversations, therapeutic exploration and / or play. This enables a child or young person to express, explore and make sense of events and experiences that are hard to verbalise or articulate. It is a non-directive and client-centred approach to therapy that allows the client the opportunity to play out, talk about and work through feelings and emotions within a safe and therapeutic environment.
Whether your young person feels recovery through counselling is more beneficial to them or if they feel more empowered to use therapeutic, creative practice (sand tray therapy, creative arts, metaphor therapeutic play), I offer a warm, friendly and confidential environment to support them in exploring and managing their emotions and feelings to live a happy and fulfilling life.
I have worked with Children and Young People with their mental wellbeing for many years, offering therapeutic support within both primary and secondary schools and currently also work for CAMHS. I have also volunteered for a Bereavement charity, working with children in supporting their grief.
I have experience with supporting children and young people around anxiety (including OCD, disordered eating), attachment, bereavement, depression emotional dysregulation, self worth / self esteem, self harm, suicidal ideation and trauma to name a few.
Practice description
As a psychotherapeutic counsellor, I am able to offer several different approaches and modalities to work with your young person and their presenting issues, within a safe, confidential and therapeutic relationship.
A counsellor is able to support clients to make the changes they desire to lead a more fulfilling life. Counsellors are not able to solve problems or offer any advice. I will however, listen, empathise and give you the support, encouragement and safe environment to help your young person to understand themselves and their situation. When your young person is ready, I will be with them, to take the next steps to recovery. This will be at a pace that is suitable to their emotional understanding, while having their emotions and feelings accepted and validated, non-judgmentally.
Counselling through therapeutic play provides the right conditions for children and young people to develop the skills and methods they need to grow, learn and express emotions in a positive way and without the feelings of being overwhelmed. This enables your young person to work through feelings, experiences and emotions without the need for 'uncomfortable' conversations.
