About me and my therapy practice
I feel deeply passionate about empowering others to find a deeper sense of security and understanding of themselves. As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I combine various models to tailor treatment according to the specific needs of each client. We are all unique individuals with our own unique life experiences and aspirations, I believe that therapy should reflect this uniqueness.
My aim is to consistently adapt to your needs, which may vary and change across the course of our work together. By creating a safe, judgement-free environment, I invite you to be yourself so we can explore your life experiences, feelings, thoughts and behaviours.
To briefly explain the main three models of therapy that inform my work:
* Cognitive Behavioural Therapy / CBT → accessing and challenging unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviours to improve your psychological wellbeing and current circumstances
* Person Centred Approach → creating a supportive, non-judgemental space for you to be you, so that you can grow in self awareness and move towards realising your full potential
* Attachment Theory → exploring the role of early experiences, unconscious motivations, and the influence of relationships in shaping your behaviour and development
Supporting your self-awareness, autonomy and agency to make decisions that align with your best interests, I centre the fact that you are the expert in your own life and strive to empower you in your journey of personal growth and self-development. In therapy I believe it is important to acknowledge the impact of intersectionality on our lives, especially when working with minority groups and I have a special interest in supporting LGBTQ+ and POC. I have been fortunate to gain a wealth of experience working with people from all walks of life in a variety of situations and practices, including low-cost counselling services and an equality, diversity and inclusion services charity offering multidisciplinary support including mental health and wellbeing.
Practice description
I work online & by phone. My clients appreciate the ease & flexibility of this as they can meet from the comfort of their preferred space. To give you a chance to share your reasons for therapy, ask me any questions and get a sense of if you’d like to work with me as your therapist, I offer free 15-min initial consultations. Email for more info & to set up.
My first session
Our very first session will be a telephone consultation that lasts for 15 mins. I invite you to share what has brought you to reach out, ask me any questions you may have and get a sense of whether we might work well together towards your goals for therapy. There is no obligation and if you need time to think or check out some other therapists beforehand I fully support this. If you would like to start sessions with me, the next step is to decide on a weekly time slot and arrange a 50 min session, which will be at full cost.
First sessions can be quite a daunting experience (especially if you’ve never had therapy before), but my focus is on welcoming you to be at ease and most importantly yourself. I will be completely present with you, making sure you feel heard and understood. After discussing the counselling contract together, we will work at your pace to discuss in more detail your goals for therapy. This session is also an opportunity for me to begin to get to know you as an individual, so I may ask broader questions to add some context to what has shaped you into the person you are today, as well.
In the first few sessions I will likely take notes in order to not miss any important details but I am sensitive about this as to not distract from what you are sharing!
