About me and my therapy practice
My name is Emma (she/her) and I am a humanistic counsellor. I am a registered member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ and adhere to their ethical framework. I offer online therapy.
My background is in publishing and I have worked on publications with an ethos rooted in sustainability and social justice. I have a degree in anthropology from Cambridge University and I believe there is a connection between personal wellbeing and the wider culture that we are a part of and how we give meaning to our experiences.
I aim to offer you a relationship rooted in understanding without judgement. I work integratively and draw on a range of tools and ideas to best meet your needs including existential, Gestalt, transactional analysis and person-centred. Sometimes it can be helpful to work with imagery; sand-tray; poetry or metaphor. It may also be useful for us to look at our relationship from time to time, as this may offer insight into how you relate to others in your life. I believe we learn from each other.
Defensive strategies enable us to survive distressing experiences that we were not able to make sense of or process when we were younger. Defences require energy to maintain and may distort your perception of the world around you. Working with your defences and processing any underlying feelings can enable you to live more freely and creatively in the here and now.
Therapy offers a space to heal, where you can feel understood and can get to know yourself better; recognise your patterns of relating; identify your strengths and values and develop a more trusting and compassionate relationship with yourself. My aim is to support you to live more authentically in the present moment – to be able to choose how it is you would like to live.
In addition to private practice I have experience within a diverse range of agencies including As You Are (Southwick); The Bower Tree (Sussex); MindOut (Brighton) and St Barnabas Hospice (Worthing).
Practice description
I offer 50 minute sessions and these may be weekly or fortnightly.
