About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified, person centred, therapeutic counsellor. I have extensive experience in working with clients who are experiencing bereavement, depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse and relationship issues. I recognise that everyone processes experiences individually, and in different ways. I have worked extensively with clients who are experiencing feelings of low self esteem and self worth. I support clients in developing a strong internal foundation for living well, happily and healthily.
I am familiar with the extensive, complex and often traumatic nature of loss in all its forms, and that it may involve complicated, difficult, conflicting feelings and emotions. I recognise that many life experiences, depression and other issues also involve aspects of loss. I have worked extensively in bereavement support.
I also have specific training in supporting victims of sexual and domestic abuse. I support clients in coming to terms with difficult life events and and working on healthy coping strategies for difficult times.
My aim is to support, listen to, and truly hear clients, and to "walk with the client on their journey" (Carl Rogers). I offer empathy, and a non- judgemental presence for clients, through 50 minute sessions, over a period of weeks, or as a client prefers.
Person centred therapy does not seek to focus on one particular area of a clients' experience, or provide advice or solutions, as it recognises that each individuals' experience is completely unique. What might work for one person may not work for another. Therefore the approach is designed to provide an environment of support in which the client feels empowered to, if they wish, explore their feelings and behaviours, and develop their own inner resources and healthy coping strategies.
I am, however, also trained in mindfulness and relaxation techniques, and occasionally these skills provide useful tools to for clients to use.
I look forward to speaking with you.
Liz
Practice description
I work online via zoom, whatsapp calls, or via telephone. Sessions are 50 minutes long.
I have some daytime appointments, and also evening and weekend appointments.
Sessions can be at the same time every week (depending on availability), or on an as and when available/ needed basis. Initially, 6 sessions are generally recommended- 1 per week, however frequency and duration of sessions is completely up to you.
Payment can be by PayPal or bank transfer. Missed sessions, or sessions cancelled within 24 hours are charged at £25.
My first session
Prior to our first session together, I offer a free 15 minute telephone conversation so that we can discuss your needs and how I might support you.
In our first session together, we will discuss the information message which I will email to you, prior to the session. This will explain about confidentiality and its limitations, and my terms and conditions.
I will request that you agree to these terms in order to proceed with sessions, by replying to the email- 'yes I agree'.
An agreement of this type is very important in order to establish the relationship and terms between us. This can't be vague or wooly, parameters and boundaries are important and necessary in life and this is just the same.
I will also need your contact details and GP information.
During the first session, we can perhaps discuss; if this is your first experience of counselling, what has brought you to counselling, or perhaps what you would like to get out of counselling. Some people initially just want to get things off their chest. You are in charge, so it's up to you.
