About me and my therapy practice
Reaching out to a therapist initially can feel intimidating and overwhelming but can be the first step towards addressing and gaining a fresh perspective on underlying issues. As an existential therapist I work with clients to think deeply about their own experience and what it means and is like to be them. Therapy itself will not guarantee solutions, 鈥渕ake鈥 individuals 鈥渂etter鈥 or always be an enjoyable endeavour but can provide the opportunity to gain clarity around ourselves, our relationships with others and what has happened, is happening and could happen in our lives.
Practice description
I have experience delivering therapy in a number of settings including community counselling services and at a charity where I delivered long-term psychotherapy with survivors of sexual abuse and violence. That said, people may come to therapy for a whole host of reasons. Some struggles may be related to recent events whereas some may have grown to be unbearable over time. Others may not be linked to processing a particular event at all but may simply feel confusing and distressing. A therapeutic relationship can provide a safe space to explore more closely our vulnerabilities, choices, avoidances, hopes and possibilities in life which, in turn, can elicit helpful shifts. I will endeavour to support you in sharing your experiences and difficulties in a way and at a pace that feels safe for you.
Prior to training as a psychotherapist I worked as a qualified lawyer in the City. Further, I spent a number of years volunteering at a residential suicide respite centre in North London as well as for national charities providing telephone and online support (Samaritans and Childline).
