About me and my therapy practice

I’m a fully qualified, experienced practitioner, registered as both a psychotherapist and a counsellor with the UKCP and the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ. I also work as a university lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

As an integrative therapist, I have been trained to use a range of appropriate theories and techniques to meet each client's distinctive needs. Beyond private practice, I have experience in an NHS setting, and have worked effectively with a full range of issues, including complex cases.

I offer a safe, supportive environment in which we can explore and make meaning of your experiences, and work together to make positive, impactful changes in your life. I bring warmth, compassion, and genuine curiosity to the therapy.

Before working in private practice, I was a senior academic in English Literature Many of my research publications engage with psychological concepts, including trauma. I draw on this academic background in my rigorous approach to treatment planning, where I engage with up-to-date research to provide evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions.

Practice description

I offer short- and long-term counselling and psychotherapy to individuals, in person, online, and by telephone.

My approach is relational, which means using the therapeutic relationship itself as a medium for insight and change. I frequently work with theories of attachment and development to help clients explore and change unhelpful patterns in their lives and relationships. Research from contemporary neuroscience contributes to the evidence base for my practice and informs my approach to attachment-based issues, anxiety, and the regulation of emotion.

I also use Transactional Analysis (TA), a humanistic theory of personality that helps us to understand how we relate to ourselves and others. TA involves a collaborative approach, in which client and therapist work together towards mutually agreed goals. While our therapy will often involve exploring the past, I sometimes use Gestalt techniques to sharpen our focus on action in the here-and-now.

I have been trained to work safely and effectively with a range of creative methods, including sandtray, clay, and guided imagery.

My first session

The purpose of our first 50 minute session is for me to find out about you, the issues that you would like to address, and whether I think that I can help you.
