About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced counsellor, holding a Foundation Degree (Distinction) in Transactional Analysis in Humanistic Counselling (Level 5). My career history prior to becoming a counsellor is diverse, from warehouse work to being a PA within an International company and even an equestrian career! My journey through life led me to become a single parent and enter higher education as an adult to retrain as a counsellor, which taught me it is possible to find a new passion. It seems to be inbuilt into my personality to connect with people from all walks of life, which I experience as being helpful as a counsellor, as I am able to connect well with most people who come to me for therapy.
I hold a Level 4 qualification in Suicide Prevention, and a TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism. I also hold Level 2 and 3 qualifications in Counselling Skills, Transactional Analysis 101 and regularly undertake CPD in many different areas.
I started out counselling through an organisation to support victims of sexual and domestic abuse and can provide a safe way of working with many forms of trauma. I also worked for an organisation providing support to problem gamblers and affected others and have experience and understanding of the impact of addiction, along with knowledge in the neurobiology of substance misuse, which puts me in a good position to support clients who are struggling in this area, or their relatives. My modality is Transactional Analysis (TA), developed by Eric Berne. TA has been written to be understood by all, and I have received much positive feedback from client's who tell me learning TA concepts has really deepened their understand of themselves and others. I may also use techniques from other modalities such as CBT, psychoeducation, Gestalt, or through creativity. My approach is tailored to the individual.

Anxiety is a really common form of suffering I see in clients. I work using a range of techniques to help reduce symptoms and to help increase a sense of calm. Once someone is experiencing greater stability and ability to function, we often look at where the anxiety is coming from and work at a deeper level to change internal processes.
Often as adults we can feel we are 'spinning too many plates'. We may have returned to education, or be having a troubled time at work. Having someone to support us and talk to each week can be such a comfort and together we can look at ways to help manage and reduce stress, explore available resources and manage situations as they arise.
Often clients can eventually move away from working in the present to looking back to learn and understand how their childhood has influenced who they have become. This can lead more fulfilling relationships and positive behavioural changes.
My first session
You may well be feeling nervous about starting therapy, but hopefully I can put you at ease! Questions and enquiries are always welcome and clients who start sessions soon tend to relax into themselves and the therapeutic space, which is just for them!
Initially, I will ask you to provide me with some insight of what has led you to seek counselling. If you can provide some information on your initial email, this would be helpful.
There are a couple of areas I do not feel appropriately qualified to work with. These are adoption and food limiting eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia.
Before we embark on our counselling journey together, I will ask you to complete an assessment session. This is an important process to help me to get to know you better and enables us to gather important information to aid our work together. It will feel different from a counselling session, as I will be leading the focus of the session by asking a series of questions, where as counselling is more of a spontaneous and organic process.
Assessment and counselling sessions last 50 minutes.
We will run though aspects of the counselling relationship, such as confidentiality, which you will also be given details of in writing through my professional contract. I have a contract in place with all clients, which ensures there is clarity around what is expected from both parties, which helps to build a feeling of safety.
I work with clients for a minimum of six sessions and with some people long term. At the assessment I will encourage you to talk about what has brought you to counselling and how you would like to benefit. We will then form what is called a working contract, which will and enables us to focus and structure our work towards meeting your personal goals. This is verbal and we will review it regularly and can make adjustments or change it according to your personal needs and desires.

I see clients on Mondays Tuesday (mornings), Wednesday and Thursday (mornings) and currently have limited availability.
Sessions are weekly in frequency.
I am unable to offer evening and weekend appointments.
I offer long and short-term counselling online. This means you can join our sessions without the hassle of leaving home. The secure online platform enables us to see each other as we would if face-to-face, or if you prefer, you can turn your camera off. An internet connection is required and a safe and private place where you can talk freely. I hold a certificate in online and telephone counselling and although I have worked face-to-face in the past, I find working online to be more accessible, especially to those who may find leaving home overwhelming, or clients who have tight schedules. It also works well when people need to access therapy from different locations.
About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced counsellor, holding a Foundation Degree (Distinction) in Transactional Analysis in Humanistic Counselling (Level 5). My career history prior to becoming a counsellor is diverse, from warehouse work to being a PA within an International company and even an equestrian career! My journey through life led me to become a single parent and enter higher education as an adult to retrain as a counsellor, which taught me it is possible to find a new passion. It seems to be inbuilt into my personality to connect with people from all walks of life, which I experience as being helpful as a counsellor, as I am able to connect well with most people who come to me for therapy.
I hold a Level 4 qualification in Suicide Prevention, and a TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism. I also hold Level 2 and 3 qualifications in Counselling Skills, Transactional Analysis 101 and regularly undertake CPD in many different areas.
I started out counselling through an organisations to support victims of sexual and domestic abuse and can provide a safe way of working with many forms of trauma. I also worked for an organisation providing support to problem gamblers and affected others and have experience and understanding of the impact of addiction, along with knowledge in the neurobiology of substance misuse, which puts me in a good position to support clients who are struggling in this area, or their relatives. I work with a large spectrum of different areas with clients, which you can learn more about if you read on!
My modality is Transactional Analysis (TA), developed by Eric Berne. TA has been written to be understood by all, and I have received much positive feedback from client's who tell me learning TA concepts has really deepened their understand of themselves and others. I may also use techniques from other modalities such as CBT, psychoeducation, Gestalt, or through creativity. My approach is tailored to the individual.

Having a safe space away from the pressures of day-to-day life, to talk without judgement and concentrate fully on yourself, can be a profound experience. Often life can lead us to feel overwhelmed, anxious or lost. You might be questioning whether a relationship is right and need some professional support to enable you to explore and make better sense of your thoughts and feelings. Conflict could be becoming the main form of interaction within a relationship and you wish to explore the dynamics and take control of navigating towards less stressful and healthier connection.
Affairs happen, relationships end for various reasons and families split. These events can leave us sat with grief, unanswered questions and a lack of hope and clarity around what the future may hold. I can provide support and a place to talk freely and work through emotions such as pain, guilt, confusion, hopelessness, and overwhelm.
