About me and my therapy practice
I have over 15 years experience of working within mental health, substance use and social care settings. I work primarily with a psychodynamic modality. Psychodynamic work involves exploring how your early relational experiences may influence you unconsciously in the here and now, including how they might impact on your current relationships, feelings and patterns of behaviour.
My initial counselling training was in person centred practice and I have undertaken further training in solution focused therapy and motivational interviewing. My approach is informed by these elements, depending on what issues you might need support with and your individual needs.
At the heart of my practice is building a compassionate relationship, trust and safety in order to explore your experiences and interpersonal relationships with others both in the past and present.
My training has involved undertaking my own therapy which has given me an appreciation of how challenging it can feel to take the first step and engage in the process of counselling.
My work experience has been varied where I have worked with many issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, low self esteem, trauma, grief and loss. I have previously worked within an LGBT+ organisation and also a student disability and wellbeing counselling service. This work has included working with neurodiversity, supporting people with gender dysphoria, issues relating to sexuality, familial issues, bereavement, exam pressures, drug and alcohol use and eating disorders. I currently work for a substance use organisation where I work with issues such as drug, alcohol and prescription drug dependency and addiction, sexual health, including issues such as chemsex. I also undertake some clinical work with an organisation offering support to people affected by trauma and homelessness.
