About me and my therapy practice
Hello!
Thank you for stopping by to read my profile. The fact that you are here reading this tells me that you are seeking help?
Maybe you or your loved one are going through some tough times, maybe you lost someone, and your grief is too hard and too much to bear alone. Maybe you have a dilemma you would like to talk to somebody about or perhaps you need to make a major decision which feels scary and you feel stuck.
The workings of a human mind have always fascinated me. The psychology magazines drew my attention. I have always loved deep conversations. Despite all of that I didn’t become a counsellor until much later. I worked in a corporate world, I was a high school teacher & a tutor and I sang in bands for most of my life. What brought me to the counselling world was, as well as curiosity, my own mental health impacted by life events. I wanted to understand me better, why I sometimes thought and felt the way I did, how I made decisions and how it was all impacting my life. I wanted to help me so in return, I could then help others.
My qualifying journey was really a journey back to myself. Because I know how hard things can get, how much it sucks not to be in control, how difficult it is allowing ourselves to be vulnerable enough to admit how much we’re really struggling.
I love being a counsellor because I know how much therapy can help. I understand the healing power of a human connection. The pain we feel is often, if not always, caused by a human interaction and so the healing also happens in relationships with other people. The relationship between the counsellor and the client is a special relationship where we focus on you, where you will be listened to without a judgement and in a safe place where no problem is too big or small. I will always try my hardest to understand what it means to be you, but most importantly, what it feels like to be you.
Practice description
My core training is a person - centred but since qualifying I have added other theories and training to my practice. Every client I have worked with had their own unique life experience and individual needs and so the therapy has always been reflective of that. I incorporate work with core emotions and compassion, attachment and trauma theories to name a few. I continue adding new research and new ways of helping my clients.
I currently work as an integrative counsellor in a private practice at Mindtalk located in the heart of Market Harborough. I also provide onIine counselling through the platform Zoom. I am a secondary school counsellor at a location in Leicestershire. I counsel for Rape Crisis and in the past I volunteered as a NHS child and adolescent bereavement counsellor at CABS Northampton.
The issues I have experience working with are relationship problems, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and self-worth, loss/bereavement, trauma, cross-cultural issues, domestic and sexual violence, historic childhood abuse, women's problems connected to various stages of a woman's life such as childbearing years, work/home balance, retirement and 'empty nest' syndrome, menopause.
Other more specific issues I have experience and additional training on are - working with adult children of alcoholics and addicted parents including people in recovery, impacts of adverse childhood experiences on an adult life of an individual, childhood trauma and attachment problems.
As well as adults, I also work with young people (13+) in my private practice. As mentioned above, my other line of work is being a school counsellor for teenagers where I encounter a variety of problems young people face. A large sub – group of my young clients are neurodivergent.
I am always happy to help and to answer any inquiries you might have. I aim to respond within 48 hours.
Just please don't suffer in silence.
