About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Julia and thank you for taking the time to learn a little about what I can offer you. I am a qualified psychotherapist and counsellor with a MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy from Staffordshire University and a member of the UKCP (UK Council of Psychotherapy), Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ(Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ), AP (Addiction Professionals) and NCPS (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society).
I have worked in the fields of addiction rehabilitation and eating disorders and have also volunteered for many years on crisis helplines. I also have lived experience of problematic alcohol consumption, stress and anxiety and recognise what it feels like to be a woman getting older in Western society.
I offer Face-to-Face, Zoom and telephone therapy for both adults and couples. I am also an EMDR Academy UK trained therapist and have worked extensively with grief, bereavement and cancer diagnosis.
Practice description
I approach therapy from a humanistic and relational stance, believing that we always have the capacity to change and grow in positive ways. I believe that the way we cope in our present-day lives is influenced by our past experiences and that by going back into our childhood and examining that experience, we may find clues as to where many of our coping mechanisms originate. When we become aware of this, it gives us the opportunity to change these ways and find healthier, kinder ways of treating ourselves in our present-day lives.
My therapy room is a warm and welcoming space where we can build a trusting and respectful therapeutic relationship where there is no judgement on what you bring to the room. Whatever you are struggling with, together we can find a path that feels the right fit for you and takes as long as you need it to, whether that is single session, short-term (6 sessions) or longer-term work. I will use my understanding of different therapeutic approaches to find the best path for you.
My first session
In our first session, I will take the time to get to know you, and we will discuss what you would like to get from therapy and how we may go about this. We will also talk through whether you are looking for single-session, short or long-term therapy. I am happy to arrange a telephone call to talk through what you are looking for before you commit to this assessment. The assessment will be £45 and then I charge £50 for all subsequent sessions, which are 50 minutes or longer 1 hour sessions at £60.
With couples counselling I will ask you both to attend the first session, but will see you each separately for one session. Sessions are £70 for one hour with the assessment session being £55.
