Availability
I currently have some availability during both daytimes and evenings. I work face to face in my dedicated therapy room in my garden in Hampton Hill TW12, online or by telephone. The choice is yours. My actual working hours are flexible, depending on demand. Generally the earliest appointment starts at 9am and the last at 9pm though we can discuss other options if this does not work for you.
About me and my therapy practice
Counselling is useful when you feel that you need to change something in your life but you need help to do so. You may not know exactly what needs to change and you may feel uncomfortable asking, but I hope to help.
A difficult situation that you feel overwhelmed by, a relationship that you know is probably bad for your mental health but nevertheless you continue it, huge anxiety out of all proportion to thing you fear, inability to find the urge to go on in life.
The issues we face in every way imaginable are part of life. But when the issue, say a bad relationship with a family member, has got such a grip, such power over your daily life that it feels as if it is controlling you and stopping you living the way you wish, then maybe it is time to turn for help.
If your particular issue or issues you want to sort out are affecting you as badly as I have described just above, or even if they aren't that bad, getting in touch with a Counsellor (or Therapist - the words both mean the same) is often a good place to start.
But how to choose the right therapist and does it matter?
In fact the relationship between Therapist and Client is fairly crucial. A lot of the benefits that can take place from therapy come solely from this relationship.
So take time when you scroll through these long lists of possible therapists. Do they seem kindly, firm, soft, sympathetic, experienced? Whatever it is you think you might want them to be, try to find the one for you. It isn't easy.
If you think I might be someone you can talk to freely, I would like to reassure you that my approach is one where you, my Client is at the centre of everything during those precious 50 minutes of therapy, when the noise of the world is kept quiet and I will focus purely on you. I will never judge you so once you feel confident in me, I hope we will begin to do some exploration together to see where the bits of your puzzle fit and hopefully sort out the parts that seem to be causing trouble for you.
Practice description
Of course I hope you do feel relaxed and able to talk with me about anything that it is on your mind.
Prior to first meeting I offer a free telephone consultation for 30 minutes to see if you think you'd like to go to the next step, that of meeting face to face, via computer or a continuation of our working together on the phone.
Our very first 'taster' session will be half price so you'll get some feeling whether it is going to work coming to me as your therapist. No harm done if you decide I'm not the one.
The first proper session will be focussed on you asking me any questions you want and then a discussion about a contract between us. You don't have to sign this contract there and then but can take it away for thoughtful consideration at home before we meet through whatever medium a week later.
The rest of this first session and from then on is devoted solely to you.
The whole ethos of the Person Centred approach is that you are in charge. I am there to try to help nudge and occasionally guide you.
You are the one to decide what you want to discuss. When you have then had enough of one topic or issue, you can turn to the next. I will not be directing you what to think or feel.
It can take quite some time to work out what is holding you back from leading a fulfilled life. It will be uncomfortable and sometimes painful. It is complicated to unravel our own selves. But the result could be a new version of you, much more the real you and therefore you should be able to find the right path in your life. If you choose to start that exploration with me, I would consider it an enormous honour.
My first session
Prior to the first session I offer a free of charge, no obligation, 30 minute telephone consultation. This should allow you time to ask me enough to decide whether you want to go on to the next stage:
The first taster session, which is half price: £35.00
This is to see whether you think we could work together. In this session you can ask any questions about therapy you want, about me, about anything at all that could help you make your mind up that I seem ok, so 'let's give him a chance' or (hopefully not) 'he's not the one for me'. Then you can take as long as you wish to make your decision; come back to me with a message or email or call and we'll get the first proper session booked in.
You can walk away from the whole process at any time. You are in charge.
You decide the issue or issues you want to explore.
I won't be sitting in a chair behind you while you lie, probably in some discomfort, on a chaise longue. If we meet face to face it is in the comfortable private therapy room in my garden in Hampton Hill. We will sit across from each other in similar chairs and all my focus and attention will be on you, in a supportive, unjudgemental way.
Everything you talk about in every session is confidential.
