About me and my therapy practice
Welcome, my name is Debbie. I am a Person-Centred Counsellor & Group Facilitator. I gained my Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Well-being, Counselling and Psychotherapy from Aberdeen University in 2019.
As well as my private practice I work part-time in the Violence Against Women and Girls sector and specialise in trauma-informed praxis. I work with a culturally diverse client base which has prompted a self-exploration of my white privilege. I am dedicated to continuously educating myself and I aim to build an anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive way of being with an intersectional feminist approach. I work with people over the age of 18, am an LGBTQ+ ally, and can offer concessional rates.
The core of my practice is grounded in empathy, genuineness, non-judgmentalism, collaboration and creativity. I aim to create a space for my clients where they will feel welcomed, safe, and able to bring their whole identity into the session, which in turn will cultivate the conditions required for growth, change, and healing.
Being Person-Centred I take self-care seriously and work with my own therapist, engage in peer support, plus monthly clinical supervision in line with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ guidelines.
Out of working hours, I love art & design, architecture, listening to and playing music, practice yoga, and am a very willing companion to my feline friend who (full disclosure) may appear during our sessions together. I welcome your pets into our sessions too.
I am based in Edinburgh and Dunfermline.
Practice description
I offer both short and long-term therapy online following a free initial 30 minute consultation.
Each session is 50 minutes, on the same day and time every week, where possible.
My first session
I provide a free consultation of up to 30 minutes for us to explore working together. This time will allow you to ask any questions regarding my practice and it's a space for you to bring an overview of what you would like to explore in therapy; your needs and expectations, and any potential outcomes.
