About me and my therapy practice

I am a psychodynamic therapist registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ). I see individuals privately in Fitzrovia in Central London.

Prior to working privately, I worked for five years in the voluntary sector, providing long-term therapy to individuals with histories of addiction and early developmental trauma. This gave me an understanding of the extent to which adverse early experiences can impact behaviour and psychological functioning in adulthood. Since then, I have undertaken post-qualifying training in trauma therapy and the treatment of trauma-related dissociation.

I have a particular clinical and theoretical interest in states of depersonalisation, derealisation and feelings of disconnection. My thinking and work around these difficulties is influenced by object relations approaches and relational psychoanalysis. I keep up to date with relevant research in these areas.

Practice description

My treatment approach is primarily psychodynamic. Psychodynamic psychotherapy involves a process of exploring emotional themes and patterns that may be outside of your awareness and thus, unbeknownst to you, contributing to your relationships with others, behaviours and symptoms. Although these may have been conducive to your survival at one point, you may now be experiencing their cost. Psychodynamic therapy offers a way of making these themes and patterns conscious and thus amenable to change.

I usually work on a long-term basis with individuals as I believe this is most conducive to the development of a trusting therapeutic relationship and allows different aspects of the work to unfold at a natural pace.

My first session

Before therapy commences, our first two sessions will comprise an initial consultation in which your area/s of concern will be explored and a full history will be taken. In the initial consultation, we will discuss your goals and decide together on how long we meet for. This can be reviewed as our work progresses.
