About me and my therapy practice
Are you feeling isolated, lonely, or overwhelmed by relationships, family or friendship difficulties? Have you recently been bereaved or suffered a loss? Maybe you find yourself seeking comfort in food, alcohol or drugs? Or, you find yourself excessively working, online shopping or using social media, etc? Do any of these things sound familiar? If so, and you are new to counselling or psychotherapy, I know how nervous you are probably feeling. Taking such a step can be challenging, so I am here to support you.
Depending on your hopes and needs, we can work together over a a few sessions or longer if you want. The choice is yours.
Whatever your focus, therapy can help you:
Feel less anxious and less stressed
Cultivate better personal and work life relationships
Improve your confidence and assertiveness...
.... and in turn, feel happier within yourself.
As a person-centred therapist, I can provide you with a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space for you to explore whatever is going on for you at the moment. If you are struggling with something, feeling overwhelmed or simply stuck, it can help to talk.
My training and experience includes
- trauma
- anxiety
- bereavement and loss
- depression
- lack of motivation
- self-harm
- relationships
- work related issues
- working with children and young people.
I have an educational background including supporting and coaching teachers in university settings. I have worked in a variety of agency settings as well as a school based counsellor, working with young people from the age of nine. I currently work for a counselling charity based in Cardiff two days a week.
Practice description
I am happy to have a brief informal chat before starting counselling to answer your questions. This will give you the opportunity to decide whether you want to work with me. It is so important that you feel happy with the counsellor you choose.
Each session will last 50 minutes and is normally at the same time each week. It is entirely up to you how long you come to counselling. Some people find the support they need in a few sessions, others like to come for longer. Short time work can help with a specific issue or simply offer some support in a time of crisis. Longer term work can lead to more profound changes.
Face to face sessions will be available in central Penarth from October 2024.
My first session
Generally we will have chatted on the telephone before we begin.
Before our first session, you will have received an initial personal information form, a contract and, in a separate email, a link for our first appointment via Zoom. In our first session we will talk through these forms and how we will manage working online, specifically, what happens if we lose internet connection. We will also consider your online safety.
In our first session we will be talking through the personal contact form, the confidentiality policy as well as exploring your own goals and what you want from the therapy.
We will make a contract and working agreement for our sessions and expectations. We will want to start to explore what has brought you to counselling. There will be time to ask questions to ensure you fully understand what counselling can offer you and how it can help you.
