About me and my therapy practice
I use an integrative style, i.e. I draw on several therapeutic models and integrate these into a single system.
I work collaboratively, i.e. working alongside you, not doing therapy to you. We work together and adjust the process as we go along. This means I can be responsive to what you need and change how I work as your awareness develops.
I combine counselling theory with coaching skills and a spiritual/holistic approach.
To make progress we must resolve the past, and we need a vision of the future. Where counselling and coaching meet up, it is possible to refine your goals, get free of the baggage that has been weighing you down, and create a path forward. This is powerful and effective.
My approach is spiritual. Yours does not have to be. I accept all paths that are based on respect for living things.
I interpret the world in terms of energy. This helps me to read individuals and situations accurately, and to understand the feelings of others.
My preferred methods are:
Person-Centred - Based on the principle that each person possesses the ability to grow, develop and fulfil their potential. The therapist’s role is to bring out what is already there within them.
Cognitive-Behavioural - Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviours work in a cycle. By breaking the cycle, we prevent negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours from feeding each other and continuing.
Psychodynamic - Based on the work of Freud. Useful insights are provided by Attachment Theory, Object Relations and other aspects of this model.
Transactional Analysis - A way of viewing interactions so we can modify our own role in relation to others.
Solution-Focused - A direct way to get to the core of an unwanted behaviour or situation, and move towards a more desirable outcome.
Practice description
I have been studying and practising counselling since 2017, becoming a fully qualified psychotherapist in 2021.
Since becoming a Life Coach in 2015, I realised that I needed greater skills to assist people with very difficult issues. I began reading about psychology and neuro-science, then undertook further studies so that I could extend my knowledge and address the full range of problems that clients experience.
I am also a Reiki Master-Teacher. I have been working as a holistic practitioner since 2012, using various forms of energy work. I realised that the talk part of the session was also very beneficial to clients, so I decided to develop this and provide life coaching too.
Previously, I worked in the music industry, the fitness industry, and housing / homelessness. The common factor was mental health and wellbeing (or the lack of these), so I was drawn to 1:1 therapeutic work as a more direct way to assist people.
