About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor offering counselling services to adults and young people. I hold a Diploma in Human Relations and Counselling from Human Development Scotland.

My practice is based in the Edinburgh city centre, and it is from here where I would aim to offer you a comfortable, safe and private place to have your story heard.

Practice description

My method of practice is Psychodynamic Therapy, a method I have used to help people cope with a wide range of issues including but not limited to anxiety, depression, stress, major life changes, childhood trauma, bereavement, relationship issues and suicidal ideation. One of the aims of this type of therapy is to attempt to provide you with a deeper understanding of your own mental processes, by listening to you and engaging you in a kind of reflective practice. I would do this by helping you to think about how some of the issues which brought you to therapy might be affecting you and your relationships, past and present. I would also help you to think about where these issues might belong in the narrative of your life. In my experience this sort of reflection leads to a greater understanding of the self in relation to the world. This insight can be the source of real change. With all of this in mind I would aim to help you unburden yourself from a troubling past and to embrace instead a happier, more fulfilling future.

My first session

The initial session is 50 minutes long, as are all the sessions I offer. In this session I would attempt to find out a bit about you and what it is that brought you to counselling. I may ask more questions than I usually would in other sessions.

I would allow time for us to discuss how the session felt for you, and whether counselling with me was something you wanted to continue with. If so, we would talk about how that might look.
