About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I am a fully qualified and experienced Therapeutic Counsellor working in comfortable, confidential rooms in Central London (near Chancery Lane), Crystal Palace and Islington, as well as offering online sessions).

Life can feel overwhelming at times and it can be hard to find the way forward. It might be that anxiety is stopping you from enjoying life, relationships are problematic, you’re not thriving at work, or elements of your past leave you feeling sad, confused, dissatisfied or stuck.

Talking to a therapist, someone outside your circle of family and friends who is trained to work with life’s problems, is often a catalyst for change. It takes courage, but by facing your difficulties alongside someone who is supportive and fully attuned to you, you can find new perspectives and unlock the door to a happier, more fulfilling future.

My aim is always to provide a warm, empathetic, trusting and non-judgemental space in which you feel truly heard and safe to talk openly and honestly about personal issues. I will work together with you, providing a safe and supportive environment in which self-acceptance, change and growth become possible.

Some of the areas I work with include:

Anxiety

Low self-esteem

Relationship problems

Career issues

Depression and low mood

Bereavement

Addiction/addictive behaviours

Loss, illness and life changes.

Lack of purpose/dissatisfaction with life

For performers/creative artists

Having spent twenty-five years as a professional musician, I also have a special interest in working with performers and creative artists, with an understanding that working in The Arts comes with its own unique set of challenges.

Practice description

As an Integrative Counsellor, I believe in adapting my approach for each person I’m with. This may mean working from a humanistic stance, psychodynamic approaches, using CBT tools when helpful, and from other theories such as attachment or an existential perspective. Most importantly, I will be fully present and engaged with you throughout the process.

Counselling can be short term or open-ended depending on each client’s needs.

Some of the potential benefits of engaging in therapy include;

Improved personal relationships

Increased self-esteem and emotional well-being

A deeper understanding of yourself

An enhanced capacity to enjoy a fulfilling life

Clarity around personal choices and professional goals

My Background

I was inspired to train as a therapist after receiving invaluable help from a counsellor at a difficult stage of my life. Through injury I was confronted with having to give up my life as a professional musician, something which seemed unimaginable to me.

In coming through these challenges, I became more and more interested in how people adapt to changes in their lives, whether through loss, health issues, circumstances or choice. Working with a counsellor gave me the opportunity to explore what was going on in my life, find acceptance, understand myself at a deeper level, make some changes and start living again. What had felt devastating and limiting became my springboard for growth and a much more fulfilling life.

I have worked as a counsellor for a number of agencies and charities. Currently, alongside my private practice, I work as a bereavement counsellor, helping people who are coming to terms with grief and loss.

My learning is ongoing, as I continually work to develop and deepen my knowledge and experience through further professional training.

My first session

I offer a free initial twenty minute phone call or Zoom meeting, in which we can discuss what you’re looking for, as well as giving you an opportunity to ask any questions about how the process might work. If you feel happy to proceed, we can then arrange a first session together.

What I can help with
