About me and my therapy practice

I’m Stacey (she/her). I’m a counsellor based in Plymouth, Devon. I offer in person and online sessions.

I work with adults experiencing a range of difficulties including: depression, anxiety, stress, worry, feeling stuck or lost, loneliness, low self-esteem or a lack of confidence, or difficulties with self-acceptance or their sense of identity. I also work with people experiencing periods of change of various kinds. I’m LGBTQIA+ affirmative.

I’m an integrative counsellor, which means I draw on a range of approaches to therapy, putting them together in a way that’s unique to each person I work with. I collaborate with clients to figure out what might help them through the difficulties that have brought them to counselling.

I work in a relational way. My clients meet the real me, not a persona I put on for work. I believe that humans are social beings and that the relationships we find ourselves in – both with friends and loved ones, in our environment, and in society more broadly – continue to shape and impact us throughout our lives. Counselling can provide space to explore this and bring about change.

Practice description

Sessions often involve talking together in a quiet and confidential space and exploring what comes up. We might talk about your experiences, feelings, thoughts, patterns of behaviour, your sense of yourself, or your relationships with others. Sometimes we might take a different approach and draw on questionnaires or worksheets, or more creative tasks such as journaling or collage-making, depending on your needs and preferences.

I often help people to recognise their strengths and the resources they can draw on. Therapy can sometimes ask people to step out of their comfort zone, but it’s your choice if and when you do this. I’ll check in with you about how you feel counselling is going as we work together, but I welcome feedback at other times too.

My first session

I offer a free 20 minute online initial consultation so that we can get a feel for whether we might work well together. I usually ask prospective clients to tell me a little more about what's led to them seeking counselling, what they're hoping to get out of it, and about any experiences of counselling or therapy they've had in the past. Clients are really welcome (and encouraged!) to ask any questions they may have about me or how I work.
