About me and my therapy practice
I am a humanistic integrative counsellor, offering a supportive, confidential and safe space, and the time, to make sense of issues, difficulties or dilemmas that are causing you concern. I offer you the opportunity to work collaboratively to make sense of your issues, whether they are current or from the past, helping you to understand and work with your emotions, to understand yourself better and more fully, and to make the changes you want to make.
Practice description
As an Integrative counsellor my therapeutic approach draws from both the Humanistic and Psychodynamic schools of thought. It is based on building trust, and being authentic and genuine, beginning with providing a warm, non-judgmental and healthy environment, where you can feel relaxed and focused, and also providing the structure and direction that will help you to anchor your thoughts in the here and now, and enable you to feel validated as a human being. I will work alongside you to explore whatever challenges bring you to counselling.
You can discuss and explore personal issues, your thoughts and your behaviors, beliefs, choices and feelings, without fear of judgement, reproach or discrimination, therefore allowing you to access your inner resources, to challenge patterns of thinking and believing that are getting in the way, or that are keeping you stuck.
I focus on approaching life challenges from a wellness perspective, helping you to uncover your strengths, and using these wherever you are in your life journey, understanding how change can be created in the here and now, which is key to emotional wellbeing.
I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and my work is fully insured and supervised.
My first session
Counselling can be an intimidating experience, so it is important that our initial introductory session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, and for you to get a feeling for what it might be like to be in therapy working with me. We will look at what has led you to therapy, and there will be an opportunity to discuss your expectations, hopes and concerns about therapy. We can explore how we might work together to meet your needs, focusing on what feels right for you, and what you would like to achieve.
In counselling, the most important factor is the relationship between the counsellor and the client. Since all therapists are unique in the way they work, our initial session is an opportunity to see whether we are well-suited.
If we agree to work together, we can then arrange weekly 50-minute sessions.
