About me and my therapy practice
Are you struggling with your mental and emotional health? Do you need some support to help make sense of your life? If so, I could help. I'm a psychotherapeutic counsellor and therapeutic coach specialising in working with young people aged 12-25-years-old but adept at working with adults too.
My name is Jeff and I have worked in a variety of roles from youth worker, coach, mentor, trainer and now psychotherapeutic counsellor. I am competent and skilled at building a therapeutic relationship that can help you to explore your inner world with safety to help soothe and heal the challenges you face.
My counselling work is based on an integrative model which enables me to be flexible and responsive to your needs. All my work is rooted in trauma-informed and shame sensitive practice where you can feel safe to explore your inner world. Our work together will give you the tools and strategies to deal with the here and now as well as working to alleviate the impact of any long term past traumas that may have a significant hold and impact on your life.
Deciding if counselling is for you is a huge step to take but with warmth, empathy, compassion and acceptance, I will give you a safe space from which to make the choice that is right for you. If you feel counselling could really help in your circumstances, please make contact and let's see if I'm the right counsellor to help you.
Practice description
I have completed a level 7 equivalent Diploma in Counselling Teenagers through the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education. I also hold a MA Education and a BA (Hons) Youth Work. My ongoing learning and development to date has included courses and reading covering: Interpersonal Neurobiology; Attachment Theory; psychiatric diagnosis; body image; neuroscience; Polyvagal Theory; Person-Centred theory; Transactional Analysis; CBT; Trauma-Informed practice; non-violent communication; and mindfulness.
I hold a Level 2 Safeguarding certificate; a DBS check; and professional indemnity insurance to ensure both yours and my safety throughout this journey.
I have worked in various roles directly with young people since 2010. I am skilled at engaging with and helping young people understand their world.
I work within the code of ethics set out by Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ, and I ensure I receive regular supervision and carry out continuous professional development each year.
My first session
The first session acts as an exploratory meeting for both parties so we can work out the suitability of this service for you. This lasts approximately 30 minutes. This will include gaining understanding of why you wish to undertake therapy now and of some of the key times in your life, amongst other things.
This time is also a space for you to ask any questions you have about my practice so you will then be able to make an informed decision about if this service is appropriate for you.
We would also explore confidentiality and safeguarding practices during this time.
