About me and my therapy practice
I offer online and telephone counselling sessions to adults all over the UK. I have a warm and gentle approach and have supported and helped people struggling with anxiety, depression, bereavement and loss, trauma, relationship issues, work-related stress low confidence and low self-esteem.
Counselling offers a safe, confidential and non-judgemental relationship where you can share whatever it is that is troubling you. In our personal relationships we may feel that we are not being truly listened to or understood. It may be that we feel that we don't want to talk to friends and family about how we are feeling and the struggles we are facing and would prefer to talk someone independent. It can feel easier to talk to someone who isn’t connected to us personally. This is when counselling can be really supportive and helpful.
I am a person-centred counsellor and that means I am interested in you as a whole person and what has happened to you that has led you to feeling the way you do, rather than just the symptoms you are experiencing.
I offer a calm therapeutic space where I will listen and support you as you share with me what you are going through. You can take as much time as you need, and I won’t push you in any way. The sessions will be led by you sharing with me what is important to you and we will explore and reflect on what you bring together.
In the sessions we can work towards your goals which might be reducing your anxiety, feeling more positive about yourself and the future, getting to know yourself and your situation better, feeling more confident in making decisions and changes in your life, gaining new perspectives, learning new ways of managing through difficult times, or maybe you just need a place where you can offload or tell your story, I will listen to you compassionately and support you in moving forward.
Practice description
Before setting up in private practice, I worked for a private counselling service and worked with clients all over the UK online and by telephone. I am passionate about working in this way and have seen how it has benefited many clients.
Having online or telephone counselling has become a very popular option as you can fit your counselling sessions around you. There are no travelling costs or times to take into consideration. You can have the sessions in your own home with your home comforts around you. Online and telephone counselling has been found to be just effective as face-to-face.
I understand that you may feel nervous about having counselling and I want to assure you that we will go at your pace. You can ask me any questions you feel you need to and I will support you all the way through your counselling journey. My main focus will be putting you and your needs at the centre of our work together.
Counselling sessions are for as long you need them and can be weekly or fortnightly. We will review the therapy together as we progress through the sessions to make sure you are getting what you need and that it is working for you. If at any point you feel you are ready to leave counselling, then we will work towards an ending together.
My first session
I offer a free initial 20 minute session by Zoom or telephone.
The initial free session is a chance for you to see if you feel comfortable talking to me and for me to hear more about what brings you to counselling and for us both to an idea if I am the right fit to be your counsellor.
At the end of the initial free session if you feel you would like to book in for your first full session you can do so there and then or you can, of course, take some time to think about it and get back to me if you wish.
In the first full session we will firstly go through the counselling contract that I will have already sent to you by email. This outlines things such as confidentiality. I will also ask you a few questions about your situation. You can then take some time to share with me about what is going on for you and we will be able to explore more about what you would like to get out of the counselling. At the end of the session you if you feel that you would like to continue then we can book you in for another session or you can take some time and get back to me. There is no pressure to continue, I am more concerned about you getting the support that feels right for you.
