About me and my therapy practice
Hello there. I’m Helen (they/them) and I’m a humanistic counselling therapist working with individuals, couples and groups. I believe that you are the expert in your own experience and in our work together, I can help you to explore any aspect of your lived experience that you want to heal from or understand more about. All of your unique needs and experiences are valid and welcome in our sessions.
I take a trauma-informed, consensual, anti-racist and anti-oppressive approach to my work. I am aligned with and affirmative of people of all genders and sexualities. I hold in my awareness that our experiences and feelings are influenced by many psychological, biological and social factors including current and intergenerational cultural, racial, political and systemic oppression and trauma.
I hold respect, compassion and kindness at the centre of my work and aim to provide an opportunity for you to take up space, to be seen and to be heard. Through the therapeutic relationship that we develop together and the tools that you can take from our sessions into other parts of your life, my hope and intention is that you can find healing.
Sometimes, life can feel overwhelming. It may be that you are experiencing feelings of anxiety, stress or depression. Perhaps you want to explore current or past relationships or events that are causing you pain or distress. It could be that you are feeling unfulfilled or find it difficult to get your needs met or to express all the authentic parts of who you are.
My intention is to offer a reflective and confidential space and relationship focused on safety, where you can slow down, where you can talk, think, feel and be however you want to be. Together we can work out what you might need from our time together and find ways for you to feel more fulfilled, authentic and at home in yourself and in your body.
I look forward to meeting you.
Practice description
I offer both short-term and long term open-ended therapy.
For individuals, I charge a sliding scale of £55-£65 per session depending on financial capacity. Based on principles of economic justice, the fee you pay is proportionate to what you have available to give. I also have a limited number of concessionary places at £35.
For couples, I charge £80 per session.
For organisations, please contact me for more information on my group and training rates.
I primarily work face to face in a comfortable and accessible therapy room in central Brighton.
I also offer online sessions via Zoom.
My first session
Our initial session is an opportunity for you to see how I work and to ask any questions. I use this session to also get to know a little about you and what brings you to therapy. By the end of the session, we should have an idea about whether we are a good fit.
I do not ask you to commit to ongoing sessions in this first meeting, but rather prefer you to take a few days to reflect on whether I am the right therapist for you. If I'm not, I'm always happy to refer to a colleague who I think might be a good fit for you.
