Availability
I aim to offer a flexible approach to the time and frequency of therapy sessions. I currently have some availability for adult face-to-face and online work. There is sometimes a wait for young person's sessions depending on age and needs of the young person.
Please feel free to contact me to discuss any particular preferences or requirements that you may have. If I am unable to accommodate, then I'm happy to try and help suggest other possible options.
About me and my therapy practice
There is no one type of person issue that counselling works better with - there isn't a magic fixing wand for us to wave. But if you have thoughts, feelings or life events that you've been struggling to process then it is no weakness to seek help.
Many people find it easier to talk to someone who they see as being separate or an "outsider" to their life rather than friends or family. I can help you make sense of events (past and ongoing) in your life and resolve complicated feelings linked to these. However, you don't have to be at crisis point or feel unwell to have counselling! Therapy can be used to better understanding of yourself, working to change things you want, increasing your self-esteem and for self-care. If you aren't sure if therapy is for you then feel free to reach out - it costs nothing to have an initial chat.
I work using the Person-Centred (or Humanistic) approach, which is often referred to as the "how does that make you feel?" style of therapy. However, a more accurate description would be I focus on building a supportive relationship where we can view the world from your perspective, and we work together to make changes that you want. I believe that you are the expert in your own life and have the ability to solve your own problems but recognise that sometimes an "outsiders" support and perspective can be helpful. I aim to create a non-judgmental safe space to explore your world using empathy, honesty and unconditional positive regard helping us to work through the thoughts, feelings and issues that are impacting you.
Practice description
I offer counselling and creative talking therapies to people of all ages. I work with primary school aged children and upwards using art/play-based therapy. My work with older children and adults usually involves talking-based therapy with creative elements as needed.
If you would like in person counselling, then I have availability locally to the Walkden/Worsley (M28) and Bolton (BL4) areas. I tend to work with teenagers and adults out of my base at Total Healthcare in Farnworth and out of Wardley Community Centre for primary school age children.
These areas are easily accessible off the East Lancs (A580) meaning I'm accessible to people living in the Wigan, Bolton, Salford and Greater Manchester areas. However, I am available for video and telephone counselling sessions throughout the UK.
My first session
I would invite you to have an initial conversation on the phone so that we can see if we will be a good fit for each other. If you want to try a session with me, then I offer a no-commitment taster because I find it helps take the stress away from trying therapy or therapists!
If you then want to have a think before booking more sessions then I only ask for a reduced fee to cover costs. At the moment this £10 to cover room hire (if met face-to-face) or nothing for a phone/video session. However, if we start work properly, contract and book a follow up session then I do ask for the full session fee as given in the initial phone call.
