About me and my therapy practice
A little about me
I'm a person, like you, who has navigated my way through the trials and tribulations that accompany the human experience. Life involves a plethora of emotions that are common for all humans.
What to expect when we work together
As a humanistic therapist, my primary focus is to provide a natural, nurturing, safe space, where you feel comfortable and at ease to talk about anything that is living. Our working relationship is one in which I respect you as a human in the world; your autonomy, your experiencing, your approach, your essence.
I provide a judgement free space, where you can speak without fear about how this may be received. Working in this way can enable you to connect with your authentic self, find your own voice and empower you to live the life that you want.
I thoroughly enjoy working with a diverse range of individuals and am wholeheartedly committed to establishing comfort and connection with those with whom I work.
Practice description
I understand that therapy can feel frightening; terrifying even. It is incredibly courageous to begin the process of sitting with another and sharing your life.
As such, I welcome you warmly into a non-judgemental space. My aim as a therapist is to get to know you, really know you, so that I can see the world through your eyes. There is no 'right or wrong' here. Openness and curiosity for you and your world is fundamental to me.
Working in this way can enable a deep sense of trust to develop between us. Being seen and heard at a deeply relational level can empower you to expand beyond limits that may previously have been placed on you (or that you have placed on yourself).
Relating in a relaxed, attentive, attuned way can support you in delving deeper into parts of you that might have been kept in the shadows, unknown. Processing these aspects of self, engaging in feelings openly and honestly can aid in creating space for you to live a more full and present life.
Being present with a witnessing other, can support you in recognising deep rooted patterns that impact your life. Identification of such patterns can lead to expanded awareness, which empowers choice and change.
Supporting you to live authentically, to realise and know your true self is my greatest privilege.
My first session
Prior to our first session, I offer a free introductory telephone call (typically around 20 minutes). Here, we can both utilise the opportunity to get to know one another and see if we might be a good fit to work together.
During this call, we will discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and what you are hoping to gain from attending therapy sessions. I explain my role as a therapist, how I work and what you might expect from our sessions together.
A shared agreement will be emailed, prior to session 1, stating the aims of our therapeutic alliance, alongside an information gathering document, where you record key features about yourself.
The first therapy session (and subsequent sessions) are taken at your pace, in your own time. As a person-centred therapist, it is fundamental for me that you feel safe and secure in sharing with me and processing.
All of you is welcome in the therapeutic space created.
