About me and my therapy practice

As a psychodynamic, integrative counselor, I believe that exploring our past experiences and unconscious patterns can reveal valuable insights into the challenges we face today. My approach centres on creating a safe, non-judgmental space to work collaboratively to understand and transform the underlying influences on your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

With a psychodynamic foundation, I help clients explore the deeper roots of their emotions, relationships, and personal struggles. Often, unresolved feelings or past experiences can impact us in ways we may not be fully aware of, and bringing these to light can create new pathways for growth and healing.

As an integrative therapist, I draw from multiple therapeutic approaches. I use a range of modalities, such as psychodynamic, humanistic, trauma-informed therapy, body psychotherapy, CBT, Gestalt, and inner child work to build the therapy around you and your needs. This means that while our work together may delve into past experiences, we may also focus on present challenges, behavioural patterns, and coping skills, depending on what feels most helpful for you.

Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, navigating life changes, working through challenging past experiences, people-pleasing tendencies, low self-esteem or simply seeking more clarity in your life, I’m here to help. Together, we’ll work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, creating a collaborative process that fosters growth and resilience.

I have worked in a variety of mental health and therapeutic settings, supporting individuals struggling with a range of issues, including:

- anxiety

- life transitions

- depression

- abuse

- narcissistic abuse

- domestic violence

- bereavement

- family issues

- relationship issues

- ADHD

- social anxiety

- people-pleasing tendencies

- low self-esteem

- low confidence and many more

I welcome any questions you may have and look forward to hearing from you.

Practice description

Integrative Framework

I chose integration because I believe that there is no one way of understanding human behavior and no therapeutic approach that is suitable for everyone and all presenting issues. I integrate different theoretical approaches into a cohesive, relational way of working which involves the ‘self’ of the therapist being present on multiple levels in the work with clients.

At your own pace

At first, when you have a first counseling session, you may find the prospect of opening up about your private experiences and personal reactions to them daunting. Rest assured that this is normal and that you will never be forced to share more than you feel comfortable sharing, and certainly not before a degree of trust between us is in place. It may take a few sessions for this to happen and collaboratively we will determine the pace of our work together.

My first session

The initial consultation will give us both a chance to decide whether counseling is for you and whether we are a good enough fit and can work well together. During this free phone assessment, I will ask you some questions about your background history, presenting issues (what is troubling you), and expectations for therapy. You will also be invited to ask me anything which may help you clarify whether you would feel comfortable with me. If we choose to work together, we will establish the focus of therapy and a treatment plan that will meet your needs. If, however, we agree that you may be better suited to a different therapist, I will do my best to signpost you in the right direction.

Goals

From the start, we will agree on what you would like to get out of therapy. However, we will be reviewing the work as we move along, offering you the opportunity to reflect on your progress and how we are doing. It is not uncommon for initial goals to change as the therapeutic work evolves.

Types of therapy

Brief therapy, CBT, Emotionally focused therapy, Existential, Family therapy, Gestalt, Humanistic, Integrative, Person centred, Psychoanalytic, Psychodynamic, Solution focused brief therapy, Transpersonal

Clients I work with

Adults, Older adults, Trainees, Young people
