About me and my therapy practice

Is your anxiety at an all time high?  And your self-esteem is at an all time low?

You can't manage something you don't understand.  Self-awareness is a good starting point.

That’s where I can come in.  My name is Ben.  I am a therapist based in London and online. I work with people who might be experiencing adjustment stress, anger issues, anxiety, depression, identity issues, a lack of meaning and purpose in their life, life transitions, low self-esteem, men issues, phase of life problems, relationship problems, stress, trauma, work-life balance – among other challenges.

I aim to support the development of self-awareness.  Self-awareness is about learning to better understand why you feel what you feel and why you behave in a particular way.

As a counsellor, I am often reminded that life is not without its stresses for everyone.  Life is hard.  Yet life should be less struggling and more living.

Talking offers the opportunity to make sense of things and to put things into perspective.  It is also a way of rediscovering yourself.  Ask yourself, what do you need to relearn?  (A lot of learning is unlearning.)

The trouble with talking is that it can you help you feel better.  But you don’t necessarily get better.  Self-awareness in of itself is sometimes not enough.  You have to back it up with action.  That’s where my coaching training can come in (i.e., turning self-awareness into action).  Remember, therapy is not a substitute for life, it’s a dress rehearsal for it!

Anxiety, anger, or depression don't have an identity of their own and get to run your life.  Take back control.

Practice description

My starting point is always you.  What do you want from life?  Core to my approach is building a strong therapeutic relationship.

I am a Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ accredited counsellor.  I practice using an integrative approach, including elements from Humanistic, Psychodynamics, CBT and Solution Focused Therapy.

Working in an integrative way means I combine different tools and techniques from different approaches.  It gives me greater flexibility to adapt my approach to meet your preferences and needs.

Both 'being' and 'doing' are important in therapy.   For example, people need different things at different points.  Someone who has a clear expressed goal for therapy might benefit from a more proactive approach whereas someone who has an emerging awareness may want to use the space to explore their feelings and desires.

I acknowledge confronting reality can be difficult when it's painful.  I try to create a safe space to help you think things through and discover your own answers.  Pain is transformed when it is accepted.

In terms of the process, you set the pace.  You are responsible for the content, and I am responsible for managing the process.  The work is collaborative in nature.  That said, you are going to have to do most of the hard psychological lifting!  But I will be there to support you every step of the way.

My first session

I recognise many people may feel unsure, or may be worried, about engaging in therapy.  If you feel like this, it may be because you don’t feel you know enough about the process yet and need more information.  Hence, I offer a free initial 20 minutes telephone consultation.  It’s an opportunity for you to find out a bit more about me and to ask any questions you may have, and equally for me to find out about you, and what you want to get out of therapy.

In all this, it is important to make a choice that is right for you, and I will support you whatever it is.

Thereafter, if you are interested in my approach, I suggest we meet for a first session of 50 minutes for which I charge my usual fee.

In the first session, we will discuss the terms and conditions of the contract.  Contracting is important because you have the right to know what to expect from counselling.

We can discuss mutual expectations and agree how we want to work together.  This will ensure your preferences and needs are met.

I will take you through an assessment.  Given such, I am more likely to need to ask more questions and be more directive.

About me and my therapy practice

Do you feel lost in life? Sometimes there is a feeling that creeps in. A sense of deep dissatisfaction with the way things are. It's ok to be stuck at times; stuckness is part of life. It can be difficult to know what to do. Self-awareness is a good starting point.

That’s where I can come in. My name is Ben. I am a counsellor based in London and online. I work with people who might be experiencing anger, anxiety, depression, family issues, identity issues, a lack of meaning and purpose, life transitions, low self-esteem, relationship problems, stress, trauma, work-life balance – among other challenges.

Don't live with the feeling that there must be more to life than this your entire life. Get clear on what you want. Make a positive choice. How long are you going to keep yourself waiting?
