About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I am Harriet and I offer a confidential, non-judgemental, compassionate space to enable you to explore whatever is troubling you.
Maybe you are feeling anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed? Or there are things you would like to be different but can’t work out how to make this happen?
My approach is collaborative; to help you to work out what might make life lighter, less exhausting and feel less stuck.
At the heart of my approach is a belief that what we are experiencing today is the result of our well-intentioned attempt to make sense the world as we have experienced it. I approach the counselling process as a gentle journey of discovery, mindful that it is possible to repair the impact of the past without necessarily revisiting it. In my experience change happens when we can set aside self-judgement and allow ourselves to gain in self-understanding.
Practice description
I am a registered member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ and am bound by the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I currently work from Rowlands House, near Romsey, with free parking on site and I also see clients online.
I work with adults and young people from aged 14 upwards and incorporate creativity into my practice when this feels appropriate.
I initially trained in Transactional Analysis, which is a form of counselling that looks at how our beliefs about ourselves, others and the world impact our experiences in life and how we relate to others.
Since my initial training I have also gained a Diploma in Counselling Young People and developed a trauma-informed approach, incorporating elements of Compassion-Focussed Therapy and Internal Family Systems Therapy.
In addition to my private practice I also work with adults and young people at a charity specialising in working with people who have experienced sexual abuse and trauma. In the past I have worked at a university in Southampton and youth charity in Eastleigh as well as a charity working with adults in the Winchester area.
I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly attend training on a wide variety of topics to support my counselling practice.
My first session
I offer a free confidential half hour introductory session to enable prospective clients to get a feel of how it would be to work with me. I believe it is useful for anyone seeking counselling to meet with several counsellors to ascertain who is the best fit.
The relationship between counsellor and client is a vital aspect of the work so it is important to find the right counsellor for you.
